Respawn's 'Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order' arrives November 15th - Engadget

Respawn Entertainment/EA

Respawn has pulled back the curtains on Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order after months of teases. The single-player game is now due to launch on November 15th and follows Cal Kestis, a Padawan trying to survive Emperor Palpatine's command to execute the Jedi -- including the Inquisitors hunting the last remnants of the once-great order. He starts as a scrapper trying to keep his head down, but he's invariably roped into a larger story and learns to embrace his Force powers instead of keeping them suppressed.

The company hasn't shown off gameplay just yet. However, it's teasing an "innovative" combat system with melee combos and, of course, lightsabers and Force powers. You'll also need to rely on some acrobatics to counter enemies and solve the puzzles in your way. There will be a mix of new and "iconic" places, equipment and foes, including Purge Troopers that help the Inquisitors investigate the Jedi.

It should be available for PC, PS4 and Xbox One.

Respawn is eager to avoid the pitfalls that have clouded EA's earlier Star Wars titles. This is strictly a single-player game, and there are no microtransactions. You won't be goaded into buying new skins for Cal or your droid (BD-1, if you're curious). It's a bit of a departure for Respawn given its reputation for multiplayer-first games like the microtransaction-laden Apex Legends, but then Titanfall 2 is widely considered a cult hit for its storyline. That strong pedigree bodes well.

Jedi Fallen Order Has No Microtransactions Or Multiplayer - GameSpot

Respawn boss Vince Zampella has confirmed that Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order is a story-driven, single-player game. There will be no multiplayer to speak of, and no microtransactions either, which means the game will be bucking a few recent trends in favor of delivering players a focused narrative.

On the Star Wars Celebration Day 1 live stream, Zampella said, [Jedi: Fallen Order] is a single-player story game… No multiplayer, no microtransactions. It's a story game." Zampella's words were met with applause and shouts of joy.

[Update: Saturday's Jedi Fallen Order panel has concluded, having brought us both the first trailer and a release date: The game is coming to PS4, Xbox One, and PC on November 15. There were also some high-level details shared about the story and its protagonist, but we didn't get a look at gameplay and learn a whole lot about what the game plays like. The panel was light on information overall.]

Jedi Fallen Order writer Chris Avellone's earlier comments, when he said story is "very important to Respawn."

"I hope [the six writers] are listed in the reveal because I accidentally said 'I've wrapped this up,' but there are other writers and I'm not even the lead guy," Avellone said. "Story was very important to Respawn. I think they do a good job of introducing various narrative layers into their games already, but they think the story is an important part of what they perceive to be a Star Wars game. That's one of the reasons I like Respawn, because when they tackle something like that, they understand what the important points are."

The Knights of the Old Republic II - The Sith Lords writer has said he's done with his portion of Jedi: Fallen Order's story. "I think they brought me on because I have a pretty strong Star Wars pedigree so I'd probably be able to just jump right in," Avellone continued. "And I was, which was good. It didn't require a ton of new research."

Jedi: Fallen Order was revealed during E3 2018, and Zampella said the Star Wars game is set after Episode III: Revenge of the Sith. You'll play as a Jedi Padawan that escaped Order 66, and you'll have access to a lightsaber. Respawn is expected to announce further details about Jedi: Fallen Order during a panel at Star Wars Celebration on April 13 at 11:30 AM PT / 2:30 PM ET / 7:30 PM BST.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is currently scheduled to release Fall 2019, presumably for Xbox One, PS4, and PC. Some art for the game has already been leaked. Despite not knowing much about it, there are quite a few people and places we want to see in the game.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order launches November 15, debut trailer - Gematsu

Story-based third-person action adventure game.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, a new third-person action adventure game developed by Respawn Entertainment, will launch for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on November 15, publisher Electronic Arts announced.

Pre-orders are available now in $59.99 standard and $69.99 Deluxe editions. The Deluxe edition includes a “Director’s Cut” suite of behind-the-scenes features and content, as well as unique cosmetic equipment. Pre-orders for either edition include additional unique cosmetic equipment for the player’s lightsaber and droid companion.

Here is an overview of game, via Electronic Arts:

■ About

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order will feature an authentic story set shortly after the events of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith, when the Jedi have fallen. Fans will play as a young Padawan named Cal Kestis, brought to life by Cameron Monaghan (Shameless, Gotham), who has survived Order 66, the Emperor’s secret decree to eliminate all Jedi. Players must pick up the pieces of Cal’s shattered past to complete his training and master the art of the iconic lightsaber—all while staying one step ahead of the Empire and its deadly Inquisitors.

Players will meet Cal on Bracca, a brand-new Star Wars planet and one of several new locations introduced in the game. Cal is hiding from the Empire in plain sight but is forced to go on the run when he exposes his Force powers. Along the way, Cal will make new friends, like his mysterious companion Cere, as well as run into some familiar faces, all while being accompanied by his faithful droid BD-1. Cal’s flight from the Empire is made even more dangerous as he is being pursued by the Second Sister, one of the Empire’s elite Inquisitors, who seeks to hunt Cal down and extinguish this surviving Jedi. Assisting the Second Sister are the terrifying Purge Troopers, special Imperial forces trained to seek out Jedi and aid the Inquisitors in their dastardly work.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is designed with gameplay as a top priority in order to deliver the kind of intense Star Wars lightsaber battles that are seen in the films. Brought to life by Respawn, a studio known for high-quality games that are both visually beautiful and technically masterful, players will use their Jedi training to create different melee combinations with an innovative lightsaber combat system and Force abilities. Players will also use traversal and other platforming abilities to strategically overcome opponents and solve puzzles in their path across this galaxy-spanning adventure. Star Wars fans will recognize iconic locations, weapons, gear, and enemies, while also meeting a roster of fresh characters, locations, creatures, droids and adversaries new to Star Wars.

■ Staff Comments

Stig Asmussen – Game Director, Respawn Entertainment

“Many Star Wars fans, ourselves included, are really interested in the dark times, so we wanted to explore that mysterious, dangerous period. The team at Lucasfilm have been amazing collaborators, helping us explore and further develop this part of the timeline where the Empire is at the height of its power and any remaining Jedi are in hiding. Within this narrative, we’ve crafted a game with intense, yet thoughtful and fun melee combat using the lightsaber and Force powers, allowing anyone to fulfill their Jedi fantasy.”

Steve Blank – Director of Franchise Content and Strategy, Lucasfilm

“When Respawn approached us with the idea for this game, we were immediately supportive. A single player, story-driven title in the Star Wars universe was exactly what we were looking for, and we know the fans have been eager for one, as well. Focusing on Cal stepping back into the shoes of a Jedi post Order 66 opens up a lot of gameplay opportunities and rich story threads to develop for this new character and his backstory.”

Taylor Swift Has Been Hinting At Her Next Music Drop With A Series Of Complicated Clues - BuzzFeed News

Just after midnight on Saturday Taylor Swift posted a countdown clock on her website and Instagram stories suggesting ... something is coming on April 26.

Swift changed her profile photos on her social media to an image of pastel pink clouds — a color palette similar to the outfit she wore to her most recent public appearance at the IHeartRadio Music Awards last month as well as other images she's recently posted to Instagram.

True to her style, Swift posted the countdown clock on April 13, exactly 13 days before the final day — it's common knowledge that 13 is Swift's lucky number.

Now, some eagle-eyed Swifties noticed that back in October 2018 Swift posted a photo of herself playing Scrabble with her mother alongside the caption "Let the games BEGIN."

National Scrabble Day is April 13 — today.

The cryptic social media messages are also in line with how she's announced new music in the past. Before announcing her 2017 album Reputation, the singer wiped her social media accounts clean and began posting images and videos of snakes.

Additionally, in a recent article in Elle magazine in which Swift wrote about the 30 things she learned before turning 30 years old, she said that she makes countdowns for things she's excited about.

"When I've gone through dark, low times, I've always found a tiny bit of relief and hope in getting a countdown app (they're free) and adding things I'm looking forward to," she said.

Note that since Taylor Swift is possibly the most detail-oriented person in the world, the comment about countdowns was the 26th thing on the Elle list. Again, whatever's happening later this month, it's on the TWENTY SIXTH of April.

The countdown clock was also broadcast in New York City's Times Square — as well as other places around the world including London and in Melbourne — above the url aprilTwentySix.com — which reroutes back to her official website. (If you look closely, the letters T and S are capitalized in the countdown URL. "T" + "S" ... "TS" ... "Taylor Swift" ... get it?)

Whatever may be happening on 4/26, Swifties are pumped:

Fire breaks out on first night of the Coachella music festival in California - CNN

The fire, at a mobile shower unit at the Empire Polo Club grounds, was reported at 2:06 a.m. local time, Riverside County Fire Department said. Four engines responded to the scene, near the center of the venue.
Coachella set times announced
One trailer was damaged, while a second was destroyed, they said. How the fire started wasn't immediately clear. The fire sparked just days after a longtime Coachella worker fell to his death while setting up for event.
Concertgoer Lauren Levy, who witnessed the fire, said it brought back painful memories of a recent California wildfire.
"My fiancé, Marcel Vigneron, and I have an RV in the corner area close to where the fire was. It all happened a few minutes after 2 a.m., and the flames got high quickly," Levy said. "We were told at one point we had to vacate the premises, but then we were told it was OK and we could stay."
Kacey Musgraves tried a simple call-and-response at Coachella. The crowd failed.
"There are many firefighters around here, thankfully, so they were able to put it out quickly, thank goodness, but what a scare," she added. "We were evacuated from our home in Malibu in November, so this shook me up, seeing fire so close again. The flames got high."
Coachella kicked off Friday with Donald Glover, who raps and sings as Childish Gambino, as the headliner of the annual arts and music festival held over two weekends in April. Tame Impala and Ariana Grande are due to headline Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
Other event performers include Kacey Musgraves, Blackpink, Janelle Monáe, Los Tucanes De Tijuana, Bad Bunny, Khalid, Ella Mai, H.E.R. and actor Idris Elba, who is also an accomplished DJ.
YouTube will offer a curated livestream of both weekends' performances, a first for the video-sharing site.

Taylor Swift and 'Avengers: Endgame' both have plans for April 26 - Mashable

As every entertainment, movie, and Marvel comic fan must certainly know by now, April 26, 2019 — the day the highly-anticipated film, Avengers: Endgame, hits theaters — is sacred.

It's the day many people will hold their pee to sit in a movie theater for more then three hours so they can probably (almost definitely) watch Captain America die, learn if Thanos will finally be defeated, and see if our beloved fallen heroes will be brought back to life. But Taylor Swift doesn't seem to care.

On Thursday night the singer launched a mysterious countdown clock on her website and social media accounts that sent fans spiraling. It's unlabeled, so it could signal a new project, an announcement, or new music for all we know, but the countdown has the nerve to end on the already hyped Avengers: Endgame day.

How much can we be expected to handle, Taylor?! We're only human.

While it would be fun if Taylor was so excited about seeing Avengers: Endgame that she made a countdown clock, as I'm sure others have done, all signs point to her dropping new music that day.

She's changed her social media profile pictures to a soothing pastel, watercolor paint-esque picture, and also tweeted the following photograph alongside the date.

The color pink, along with rainbows, butterflies, and sparkles are definitely a change from Swift's badass Reputation build-up, but it seems she's been creating a running theme on her Instagram account leading up to whatever the drop will be.

Taylor's planning something.

Image: screengrab/instagram

Since she and the Marvel Universe do share quite the overlapping fanbase, though, a bunch of people are now overwhelmed with all this stacked April 26 news.

While people are trying to be logical here, the fact that Taylor Swift has a song titled "Endgame" and the Avengers movie is literally called "Endgame" is really too perfect to ignore.

Does Taylor make an appearance in the movie? Does the song? Is she the one who defeats Thanos? Gah, so much to consider.

They say April 25 is the perfect date, but this year? We might have to make an exception.

Gypsy Rose Blanchard is engaged to man who contacted her in prison, report says - Fox News

Gypsy Rose Blanchard, the young Missouri woman who is serving a 10-year prison sentence for second-degree murder in her mother’s death, is reportedly engaged to her boyfriend after he began writing to her when he watched the documentary about her case.

Blanchard, 27, reportedly told her friends and family that she and her boyfriend, who was not named, are getting married, according to a family friend.

“They are very happy,” Fancy Macelli, a family friend, told People. “You can hear excitement in her voice.”

GYPSY ROSE BLANCHARD SAYS SHE ‘FELT LIKE A PRISONER’ BEFORE MOTHER’S FATAL STABBING

The couple reportedly became pen pals before they began dating and have known each other for 1 1/2 years. Macelli said the man began writing to Blanchard after he watched “Mommy Dead and Dearest,” the HBO documentary that premiered in 2017. The documentary followed the case of Blanchard and her mother, Dee Dee Blanchard, 48, who was stabbed to death in 2015.

Macelli said the couple will not get married until Blanchard is released from prison and called the relationship a “good thing for her.”

“And whether it ends up being that way in the end no one knows, but for her right now it’s a very positive and happy time,” Macelli said.

Dee Dee Blanchard allegedly suffered from a mental illness called Munchausen syndrome by proxy (MSBP), which occurs when a person attempts to produce psychological or physical symptoms in another person. Relatives said Blanchard was forced by her mother to use a wheelchair and undergo unnecessary medical procedures.

PATRICIA ARQUETTE TAKES ON SHOCKING GYPSY ROSE CRIME IN ‘THE ACT’: THE MOM-DAUGHTER RELATIONSHIP WAS ‘TOXIC’

Blanchard testified in November that she asked ex-boyfriend Nicholas Godejohn to kill her mother. Blanchard said her mother physically abused her and controlled her life. She said she thought killing her mom was the only way out and she talked Godejohn into coming to Missouri to kill her mother. The two met on a Christian dating site.

Blanchard’s story has spawned numerous TV specials, including the HBO documentary and the Hulu series “The Act,” which stars Patricia Arquette as Dee Dee and Joey King as Gypsy Rose Blanchard.
