Maisie Williams Revealed What It Was Like Filming Arya's Scene With Gendry - BuzzFeed News

If you caught Sunday's episode of Game of Thrones, you may have been disappointed by the slow pacing and lack of action or carnage that mirrored last week's premiere.

However, you were probably shocked or thrilled or deeply uncomfortable by watching little Arya Stark (Maisie Williams) lose her virginity.

With death quite literally approaching as the White Walkers slowly make their way towards Winterfell, the youngest Stark daughter made her move. She hooked up with Gendry, the blacksmith/rowing fan (Joe Dempsie) who is the bastard son of King Robert Baratheon.

Arya told him that if they were going to die in the morning, she didn't want to go down without ticking this item off her *other* list.

The two characters have cared about one another for a long time, so many viewers were thrilled to witness the "Gendrya" relationship they'd long been hoping for come to fruition.

Still, many others still felt a tad awkward watching a character they first met as a child engage in some very adult behavior.

HBO even took to Twitter to remind viewers that by this stage in the show's universe, Arya is 18 and more than capable of making her own decisions. (Oh, and Maisie Williams is 22 FYI).

Still, Dempsie told Entertainment Weekly the scene was a little awkward for him.

“It’s obviously slightly strange for me because I’ve known Maisie since she was 11, 12 years old,” he said. “At the same time, I don’t want to be patronizing toward Maisie — she’s a 20-year-old woman. So we just had a lot of fun with it.”

Williams told EW she couldn't quite believe the scene when she first read it and thought the show's creators had given her a fake script as a joke.

“At first, I thought it was a prank,” she said. “I was like, ‘Yo, good one.’ And [the showrunners were] like, ‘No, we haven’t done that this year.’ Oh fuck!”

"I got to the read-through and I’m reading the scene and thought, ‘Oh, we’re actually going to do this. When do I shoot this? I need to go to the gym!’"

She and Sophie Turner (Sansa Stark) both got their scripts for the final season at the same time, and her friend and on-screen sister immediately called her when she read the scene.

"Sophie said, ‘Whatever you do, you have to skip to this episode, this scene first,'" Williams said. "So I just read that and it was practically all I knew about the entire season.”

The actor said the show's creative team were very respectful in asking what level of nudity she'd be comfortable with on-screen.

“David [Benioff] and Dan [Weiss] were like: ‘You can show as much or as little as you want,’” Williams told EW. “So I kept myself pretty private. I don’t think it’s important for Arya to flash. This beat isn’t really about that. And everybody else has already done it on the show, so…"

Williams said that the director rushed the scene during filming, but that she just got down to business, adding that the crew was very respectful.

“No one wants to make you feel uncomfortable which kind of makes you feel more uncomfortable, because no one wants to look at anything that they shouldn’t look at, which in turn makes you feel like you look awful!"

Williams said the scene, while an acting challenge, was an important one for her character.

“It was really interesting because it’s a very human relationship for Arya,” Williams says. “This is something she’s stayed away from, an emotion we’ve never really seen her engage with."

"It’s interesting to see Arya be a bit more human, speak more normally about things people are scared of," she added.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle reportedly considering move to Africa - CBS News

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have just settled into their new home, a cottage near Windsor Castle, as they await the birth of their first child. But according to the Sunday Times of London, they may be packing their bags again soon.

The Times reports the Duke and Duchess of Sussex could move to Africa. If it happens, their royal duties would involve charity work and promoting Britain.

As the royal couple awaits the birth of their baby, reports suggest they could be packing their bags soon. CBS News

Royah Nikkhah, who co-wrote the article for the Sunday Times, told CBS News' Imtiaz Tyab, "There's no doubt that Harry and Meghan want a bit of freedom from the U.S. They want a little bit from freedom from the institution."

Harry and Meghan already have a special connection to the continent. As the prince said during their engagement TV interview in 2017, "I managed to come and persuade her to come join me in Botswana, and we camped out with each other under the stars."

One of the diamonds in Meghan's engagement ring is from Botswana.

In 2017 Harry told Town & Country magazine, "This is where I feel more like myself than anywhere else in the world."

Nikkhah said, "When Princess Elizabeth was a newlywed, she and Prince Philip spent long periods of time between 1949 and 1951 in Malta. The queen has spoken about that as being among the happiest years of her life. Harry and Meghan's move abroad is being described by courtiers as giving them a chance at their 'Malta moment.'"

Yesterday, Prince Harry attended Easter service at St. George's Chapel, a tradition for the royal family, and for Harry one of his last engagements before he becomes a dad. (His pregnant wife sat out the service.)

Palace officials tell CBS News Harry and Meghan are only in the early stages of planning their future, which could include a move abroad, but for now they are focusing on the birth of their baby, which may come any day now.

What the Kardashians wore to Kanye West's Coachella Sunday Service performance - Page Six

Kanye West took over Easter Sunday at Coachella, playing his Sunday Service set with dozens of musicians, singers and dancers including appearances from frequent collaborators Teyana Taylor, Kid Cudi and Chance the Rapper. While many other celebrities, including Idris Elba, Justin Bieber and Hailey Bieber and Jaden Smith watched from the crowd, the Kardashians all showed up to support West. The theme for the day was lavender, which Kanye wore in the form of an oversized t-shirt and cargo pants. He even dyed his hair a lavender and pink color reminiscent of a dyed Easter egg.

The 21 Most Memorable Moments from the MCU... So Far! - Rotten Tomatoes

In 2019, Rotten Tomatoes turns 21, and to mark the occasion we’re celebrating with a series of features that look back at the brightest moments on screen of the past two decades – and one year – and the things that have us excited for the future.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has redefined the way viewers approach big budget, tentpole releases. Smartly adapting a philosophy which worked well in the comics, it created a living, breathing world for its inhabitants to populate, meet up, and fight common enemies in. It also created an unprecedented sense of momentum by constantly teasing the Next Big Thing – a tactic also borrowed from Marvel Comics’ event storylines crossing into various titles like X-Men and Thor. While the MCU may have only existed for roughly half of Rotten Tomatoes lifespan, it has created its fare share of memorable moments across 21 films – soon to be 22 with this week’s release of Avengers: Endgame. With that in mind, we present the 21 MCU moments we can never forget.

Of course, narrowing down the list to just 21 was a challenge – there have been, after all, 21 films in the MCU so far, most of which are filled with dozens of memorable moments. We tried to choose those that were not just memorable, but which also showed how the MCU was working differently than other franchises – surprise twists and scenes that pushed the universe in different directions – and we tried to share the love among the different titles. Sacrifices had to be made: How could we not include Thor’s extraordinary arrival in Wakanda? Or Okoye’s wig-snatching excellence? Or Gamora’s heartbreaking moment in Infinity War? That’s what the comments section is for: so have at us down there, and let us know what moments you think should have made the list.

Spoiler Warning: Key plot details about nearly every MCU movie follow. So, if you don’t wanna know what happened, don’t read on.

21. Peter Discovers Liz’s Father Is The Vulture in Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017) 92%

In a film brimming with great moments for both Spider-Man and Peter Parker (both Tom Holland), the moment Peter arrives for his date with Liz (Laura Harrier) only to discover The Vulture (Michael Keaton) is her father is probably our favorite. It is the most unexpected revelation in the film and gives it a whole new energy as Peter and Spidey’s storylines collide, leaving the viewers with a sense anything could happen from that point forward.

20. Agent Coulson Takes One For The Team in Marvel's The Avengers (2012) 92%

The impact of this moment may be dulled now that Coulson (Clark Gregg) has been leading S.H.I.E.L.D. on television for the last five years, but it was the most heart-wrenching reversal in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s first team-up movie. Without his sacrifice, the Avengers never would’ve got their act together. So though he ultimately survived, the films still honor his encounter with Loki by keeping his second life secret from the team.

19. Carol Takes Full Possession Of Her Powers in Captain Marvel (2019) 78%

@ Marvel Studios

In a film that reverses the traditional superhero origin arc, Carol (Brie Larson) discovers the power was within her all along. Casting off the limiter tech the Kree told her was the source of her abilities, she literately ignites with power. For anyone who grew up told their innate skills were personality flaws, the moment resonates and sets Carol apart as one of the mightiest – if not the mightiest – Avenger.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier

Marvel knew they had a winner in this scene, and it featured heavily in the trailers. While the fight is one of the most accomplished in any of the Marvel movies, it continues to resonate because Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) gave the Hydra agents a choice. For all the impressive battle choreography we’ve seen, the scene is still about Steve’s inherent sense of goodness and fair play. Well, and that he can survive a multi-story fall.

17. “I’m Mary Poppins, Y’all!”: Yondu Becomes A Guardian in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017) 84%

Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2

(Photo by @ Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures)

Yondu (Michael Rooker) was always a charismatic character, but he wasn’t really a Guardian until this ultimate quip toward the end of Vol. 2. Utilizing some of that powerful Disney corporate synergy, it also marks the moment the character chose a side and fully committed to defending Peter Quill (Chris Pratt). Combined with his presence in the big Guardian group shot a few moments later and some thoughtful words with Peter, it makes his death all the more bittersweet.

16. Valkyrie Swaggers – And Staggers – Into Fans’ Hearts in Thor: Ragnarok (2017) 92%

(Photo by @ Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, @ Marvel)

Few people get to make an entrance like Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson). Long separated from her Asgardian sisters following their climatic battle with Hela (Cate Blanchett), she finds herself part of Sakaar’s strange society. And she survives with an unusual swagger which set plenty of fans’ hearts aflutter. When she steps off of her ship, tipsy and fierce at once, she’s approachable, flawed, strong, and freakin’ awesome. No wonder she’s joining the Endgame.

Baby Groot

(Photo by @ Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, @ Marvel)

While the first Guardians was filled with unexpectedly endearing moments, none were more unexpected than Baby Groot jamming to The Jackson 5’s “I Want You Back.” In fact, it was so unexpected, Disney failed to produce a line of Baby Groot merchandise timed with the film’s premiere, leaving resourceful fans and Etsy shops to initially fill the gap. It is a testament to the sort of magic Marvel and its creative partners can pull off and the best emblem of the way Guardians resonated with viewers.

14. Doctor Strange Outsmarts Dormammu in Doctor Strange (2016) 89%

Marvel Studios

(Photo by @ Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, @ Marvel)

If there is one long-standing criticism of Marvel movies, it is their habit of pitting the heroes against dark mirror versions of themselves – particularly in their origin movies. Doctor Strange confronted this critique by having Stephen Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) lock his ultimate adversary – the trans-dimensional death cloud Dormammu – in a time loop and bargaining with the entity to spare the Earth. That clever and innovative resolution is one we never stop citing as an MCU highlight.

13. T’Challa Fails Killmonger’s Challenge At The Waterfall in Doctor Strange (2016) 89%

Black Panther

Black Panther is something of a romp in its first half. Like other Marvel films, it is filled with quips, good-natured ribbing, and a really fun car chase. But then comes this moment when everything turns. Killmonger (Michael B. Jordan) trounces T’Challa (Chadwick Boseman) and asks the crowd watching on, “Is this your king?” It is both an indictment of our enjoyment of the king’s superhero antics and of his rule, taking the film in a new direction.

12. Luis Tells A Story in Ant-Man (2015) 82%

Michael Pena as Luis in Ant-Man

(Photo by @ Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, @ Marvel)

Luis (Michael Peña) is a neo-cubist kind of guy. It is that sort of detail which makes Luis’s tendency to tell long-winded stories a delight. Between Peña’s ability to deliver the dialogue and actors like Anthony Mackie and Stan Lee learning to copy his cadence in expertly shot quick-cut flashbacks accompanying his stories, it is no wonder fans would like to see him recap the entire MCU from Iron Man to Infinity War.

Mark Ruffalo as The Hulk

(Photo by @ Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, @ Marvel)

Pick your moment: The Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) punching Thor after they defeat the Chitauri ship. The Hulk turning Loki into a rag doll as he smacks him into the Stark Tower floor. The Hulk fighting Fenris on, over, and below the remains of the Bifrost. Even Loki’s panic when he realizes Sakaar’s champion is the Hulk. Sure, they are all punchlines – literally in some cases – but they all honor the character’s immense strength in ways no movie devoted to the Hulk by himself ever quite accomplished.

Gabriel Olsen/Getty Images

While all of the late Stan Lee’s cameos are memorable, we chose to single out this goofball Vol. 2 moment because it gives all of his scenes a context. Lee’s appearances – like the Hugh Hefner analogue in Iron Man, the postal worker looking for “Tony Stank” in Captain America: Civil War, and the school bus driver in Avengers: Infinity War – are all manifestations of a Watcher – cosmic entities who literally watch events unfold across the universe without interfering. It gives each jokey walk-on an added meaning and heartwarming meaning.

9. Okoye, Scarlet Witch, and Black Widow Team Up in Avengers: Infinity War (2018) 85%

Okoye, Black Widow, Scarlet Witch

(Photo by @ Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, @ Marvel)

In terms of iconic and surprising team-ups, we often think of key male combos like Thor and Rocket, but Infinity War features a killer battle between Proxima Midnight (Carrie Coon) and the combined might of Okoye (Danai Gurira), Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen), and Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson). All fight fiercely, but it’s Nat’s declaration “she’s not alone” when Proxima first threatens Wanda that keeps this epic Wakanda battle in our minds.

Captain America Civil War

(Photo by @ Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, @ Marvel)

A good Marvel team-up generally sees the heroes fight among themselves before joining forces against a common foe. And in the larger MCU Infinity Saga, this is that moment. Filled with amazing action, great jokes, and Peter Parker’s debut as the MCU Spider-Man, it is the most memorable Marvel fight yet committed to screen. Sure, it brings the movie to a halt, but it is worth it just to see Peter inadvertently age-shame the rest of the Avengers.

(Photo by @ Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, @ Marvel)

Few mid-credit stingers have a lasting impact like Thanos’s (Josh Brolin) first MCU appearance. Initially there to “court Death,” his smile was the first indication that Marvel Studios would seriously attempt a long-term event storyline. It was such an unusual idea, many expected him to be the villain in the second Avengers movie. But his smile also created a sense of momentum which ultimately made Infinity War the most anticipated of Avengers stories. (Until Endgame, of course.) Note: The above image shows Thanos in Guardians, not The Avengers.

Captain America_ The First Avenger

(Photo by @ Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, @ Marvel)

The MCU heroes are not big on catchphrases, but if Steve has one, it is “I could do this all day.” As seen in The First Avenger, it is his response to a bully who would like nothing more than to see the 98-pound Steve yield in a New York alley. It is also his response to the Red Skull’s (Hugo Weaving) taunting some time later, proving Steve will never bend to a bully. Sadly, the line took on a new meaning in Civil War, when he used it against friend Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.), who was now, in his eyes, the bully.

5. “Bury Me In The Ocean”: Killmonger’s Final Request in Black Panther (2018) 97%

Michael B. Jordan in Black Panther

(Photo by Matt Kennedy /© Marvel / © Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures)

Black Panther eventually turns Killmonger into a dark mirror version of T’Challa – which, as we’ve mentioned, is a well-worn MCU trope – but it does it in the service of something so powerful, raw, and genuinely startling for any film that it deserves special recognition. A defeated Killmonger refuses aid, but makes one request: “Bury me in the ocean with my ancestors that jumped from the ships, because they knew death was better than bondage.” That statement, and the history bursting from it, leaves all who hear it shaken to their core.

4. “Mr. Stark, I Don’t Feel So Good”: Peter Parker Turns To Dust in Avengers: Infinity War (2018) 85%

Avengers: Infinity War

(Photo by © Marvel / © Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures)

Every loss in Infinity War hits people differently, but none captured the collective feels of fans quite like Peter’s final moment with Tony. It all begins with that line just above, and some fans have theorized that his spider-sense gave him early warning about his own demise, making the scene all the more wrenching upon second viewing. Additionally, it is the ultimate expression of Tony’s failure. He spent whole movies trying to save the world in general and Peter in particular. Even when Peter inevitably returns, we expect this scene will always make people cry.

3. “I’m Here To Talk To You About The Avengers Initiative”: Nick Fury Makes His Debut in Iron Man (2008) 93%

(Photo by © Marvel / © Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures)

Earlier, we mentioned Marvel Studios’ facility with generating interest in the Next Big Thing. And this is how it began: with Samuel L. Jackson making a 30-second cameo for those who thought to sit through Iron Man’s end credits. His few lines of dialogue proved to be a mission statement no one would expect – or believe – would lead to a sprawling portfolio of film franchises.

2. “I Am Iron Man”: Tony Stark Reveals His Identity in Iron Man (2008) 93%

Iron Man

(Photo by © Marvel / © Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures)

But before that larger world could exist, Iron Man had to score the goal by doing something no other marquee cinematic superhero had ever done before: reveal himself to the world. While the films of their Distinguished Competition made duality and secret identities key plot points, Marvel tossed it all aside after one film. It was a bold choice at the time, but now it seems so natural that we sometimes forget to refer to Tony, Steve, or Nat by their superhero code names. Engendering that sort of familiarity makes this a key moment in MCU history.

And yet, if there is one most memorable and most defining moment, it is the pan across a destroyed New York street revealing the Avengers assembled for the first time in common purpose. The entire film – and the five films preceding it – lead up to this moment in which six superheroes (three of whom already starred in their own films) shared the screen and proved this crazy idea of an interconnected lattice work of film franchises could work. It also helps that it is a kick-ass shot uniting the film’s key theme with all of the expectations outside of the narrative. The Avengers can work together, and so can all these stars and different interests. We wouldn’t be at Endgame without this memorable moment.

All 21 Marvel Superhero Films, Ranked From First To Last - The Federalist

When Marvel kicked off production on “Iron Man” more than a decade ago, few would have thought they were creating a movie that would birth a shared cinematic universe spanning more than 20 films, grossing more than $18 billion to date, and changing cinema forever. With “Avengers: Endgame” set to arrive later this month, it’s worth looking back at how far they’ve come by ranking every film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Let’s go in reverse order, starting with the worst.

The Pretenders

21. “Captain Marvel”

Let’s jump right in with a hot take: “Captain Marvel” is not a good MCU film. In fact, it’s quite possibly the MCU’s weakest. A thoroughly uncharismatic lead? Check. Plot holes large enough to pilot a Quinjet through? Check. Underwhelming action set pieces? Check.

While the majority of MCU films have delivered likable characters and memorable moments, this film was shockingly short on both—a shame given Carol Danvers’ iconic status.

20. “The Incredible Hulk”

Many fans hesitate to count Edward Norton’s take on “The Incredible Hulk” as part of the MCU, but hey, Tony Stark shows up at the end, and you can’t forget Gen. Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, who comes back later to make life difficult for the Avengers. This Hulk film is basic stuff, but it’s entertaining enough. I definitely prefer Mark Ruffalo’s take on Bruce Banner, though.

19. “Ant-Man”

This one will also get me in trouble with the fans, not only because everyone loves Paul Rudd (seriously, how does he manage to always look so young?), but because I rank it below “Ant-Man and the Wasp.” And if Marvel films have taught us anything, it’s that the sequel is almost always worse. But this one just feels cookie-cutter (looking at you, Corey Stoll), and while it has some enjoyable moments, the film is fairly forgettable.

18. “Thor: The Dark World”

This film gives us a better introduction to Asgard, something we didn’t really get the first time, and Thor springing Loki out of prison is entertaining, but this film didn’t really deliver much else, with a generic, under-developed villain as its chief fault. “The Dark World” was very much emblematic of the early-Phase 2 MCU.

17. “Iron Man 3”

WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT WITH THE MANDARIN!? Sorry, am I yelling?

Seriously, though, why? This film could have been so, so good, but director Shane Black decided to undercut all dramatic tension with some very poor story-telling decisions. Tony finally coming to realize that he, not his suit, is Iron Man, is a satisfying conclusion to the trilogy’s arc, but wow, what a missed opportunity.

16. “Iron Man 2”

We take for granted how successful this series ended up being, and much of the credit should go to Jon Favreau. This film is weaker, of course, than its predecessor, and man, is Sam Rockwell annoying as Tony’s nemesis. But Favreau’s style shines through in genuinely funny quips and his effort to show us a superhero grappling with, and overcoming, his own limitations.

The Good Ones

15. “Doctor Strange”

Benedict Cumberbatch as Dr. Stephen Strange is impeccable casting, bringing just the right amount of cynical realism, balanced with scientific hope, to the role. This film was the first in the MCU to really introduce us to magic, and it’s a fun ride.

14. “Black Panther”

“Black Panther” is a solid film, and I walked out of the theater very pleased. It has many engaging components, like the Busan sequence and solid performances from Chadwick Boseman, Michael B. Jordan, and Martin Freeman. On subsequent viewings, though, it gets weaker. The third act is visually messy, and this film continued the MCU tradition of killing off compelling villains after one feature performance. RIP Killmonger and Ulysses Klaue.

13. “Ant-Man and the Wasp”

That’s right, it’s the rare sequel that’s actually better than the original. The stakes are higher in this installment, and the characters’ motivations are relatable. Evangeline Lilly is a criminally underused talent in the MCU. This film also took the best aspects of the first, like the X-Con Security crew, led by Michael Pena, and built on them.

12. “Thor”

Quite possibly the most underrated film in the MCU is “Thor.” (No, I’m not kidding. Yes, I will fight you.) The “fish out of water” plotline is a great way to introduce us to Chris Hemsworth’s charismatic version of the character. Another underrated part to this film? While many of the MCU films have very forgettable scores, Thor’s theme is iconic and incredibly moving.

11. “Captain America: The First Avenger”

If “Thor” isn’t the most underrated MCU film, this one is. Perhaps more than any other MCU character, I am always struck how Steve Rogers is good for the sake of being good, and how that affects everything he does. It makes his conflict with Tony even more believable, and it makes me always want to root for him, even if he may be wrong about something. That all starts in this film.

10. “Captain America: Civil War”

If Marvel wasn’t going to follow the true “Civil War” storyline, this was a good alternative. The conflict between Cap and Tony is real, the set pieces are fantastic, and we get some extra depth we’re not used to in a Marvel film. Hopefully we get more Zemo in the next phase.

9. “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2”

Volume 2 may never reach the classic, take-the-world-by-storm status as the original, but it never ceases to make me laugh. Drax’s constant one-liners, Baby Groot, and its subversion of expectations with the famous “Assemble!” circling shot are just a few of the highlights. Still waiting for that Adam Warlock payoff, though.

8. “Avengers: Age of Ultron”

While it didn’t live up to the original “Avengers” hype, there are plenty of things to love about this film, like Tony breaking out the Hulkbuster armor, Thor finally getting a chance to shine, the personalization of Hawkeye, new characters in Scarlet Witch and Vision, and, of course, James Spader as Ultron. The finale is entertaining, too.

7. “Spider-Man: Homecoming”

You wouldn’t think the third Spiderman in two decades would really be a breath of fresh air, but Tom Holland proved everyone wrong. Kudos to Marvel for skipping the backstory and putting us right into Peter Parker’s high school world, with Tony there to be a guiding hand. This movie isn’t “epic” like some others, but it doesn’t need to be.

The Elite

6. “Guardians of the Galaxy”

The minute Chris Pratt started playing “Come and Get Your Love,” I knew I was going to enjoy this movie. Marvel took a huge chance pouring millions into this film, and wow, did it ever pay off. “Guardians” made me laugh from start to finish, the chemistry between the leads is strong, Lee Pace is an underrated villain (although again, Marvel, come on), and even a simple cameo from Thanos is chilling.

5. Marvel’s “The Avengers”

Besides “Iron Man,” no other film in the MCU has had such cultural impact. What Marvel did in this film had never been done before, but its success changed cinema for the better. So much of the MCU as we know it today stems from what Marvel created in this film, from the plotlines, of course, to the interpersonal relationships that are still paying off in films seven years later. And honestly, can you beat the “Avengers Assemble” shot and that theme?

4. “Avengers: Infinity War”

As much as “The Avengers” introduced us to superhero team-ups and launched so many interwoven storylines, “Infinity War” represents the near-culmination of those stories, and of those character arcs. It’s a beautiful movie to watch, and moments like Thor’s arrival on Wakanda are chill-inducing. Of course, Thanos as the lead villain does not disappoint, and hey, he’s even still alive for a second movie!

3. “Thor: Ragnarok”

I didn’t think an MCU movie would make me laugh just as much as the Guardians films. I was wrong. I was chuckling to outright laughing throughout this entire film. Hemsworth absolutely knocks this performance out of the park, Jeff Goldblum as the Grandmaster was a revelation, finally getting the reconciliation between Thor and Loki was moving—and that ‘80s vibe in the score is spot-on.

2. “Captain America: The Winter Soldier”

This was Marvel’s first real attempt at a genre film, and the Russo brothers nailed it. The spy-thriller approach worked perfectly for a movie featuring Cap, Black Widow, Nick Fury, and The Falcon. The concept that S.H.I.E.L.D. had just been a front for Hydra for decades was not only a game-changer for the film, but changed the course of the MCU. The score for this movie is also underrated. A near-perfect film.

1. “Iron Man”

Was there ever any doubt? The one that started them all, the one that introduced us to Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man, reigns supreme as the top MCU film. I still remember seeing this with friends on opening night in college, and having an absolute blast.

If you had told me it would be the first of more than 20 shared universe films, I doubt I would have believed you. With perhaps one of the greatest castings of all time, this film is always a pleasure, and Tony Stark’s cinematic legacy is completely secure.

There you have it. As a fan of these films and characters for many years, it’s a bittersweet moment to be nearing the end of this phase in the MCU, but I’m thankful to have been witness to them all, and to be able to discuss and debate them with anyone interested enough to argue.

What comes next, after “Endgame?” Your guess is as good as mine, but I am excited to find out together.

‘Game of Thrones’ star Maisie Williams opens up about sex scene that shocked viewers - Fox News

“Game of Thrones” showrunners threw in a sex scene in Sunday night’s episode that many fans didn’t see coming.

The night before the epic battle against the White Walkers, several characters spent time coping with what could be their last few hours alive. For 18-year-old Arya Stark, it was losing her virginity to Gendry, a former travel partner who is the bastard son of late King Robert Baratheon. Both of them were in their teens when they last saw each other.

“We’re going to die soon. I’d like to know what it’s like before that happens,” Arya, played by Maisie Williams, 22, told Gendry, played by 31-year-old Joe Dempsie, in reference to having sex.

Fans have been rooting for an Arya and Gendry romance since the duo first met in Season 1 and began traveling together in the next season — but the unexpected sex scene still shocked fans and left some cringing.

“Running to google to check Maisie Williams’ age to make sure I didn’t break the law by having my eyes open,” one Twitter user wrote.

“Google: Maisie Williams’ age; 22 #GameOfThrones,” another person tweeted.

Another person tweeted, “ARYA SAID I SEE IT, I LIKE IT, I WANT IT, I GOT IT#GameofThrones”

“#GameofThrones Nobody: [no response], Arya: I ain't tryna die a virgin!” a fan wrote.

“Me watching Arya and Gendry about to get it on even though I pretty much watched Arya grow up,” another tweet read.

Williams opened up about her first “GOT” sex scene to Entertainment Weekly, saying co-star Sophie Turner was the first to alert her about it.

“Sophie said, ‘Whatever you do, you have to skip to this episode, this scene first.’ So I just read that and it was practically all I knew about the entire season,” Williams told Entertainment Weekly.

“At first, I thought it was a prank,” Williams added. “I was like, ‘Yo, good one.’ And [the showrunners were] like, ‘No, we haven’t done that this year.’ Oh f—k!”

Williams said it sank in she was going to be in a sex scene by the final season table read.

“I got to the read-through and I’m reading the scene and thought, ‘Oh, we’re actually going to do this. When do I shoot this? I need to go to the gym.’ A whole list of things,” she said.

Williams, who was 11 when she first joined the show, said everyone on set was respectful when it came to filming the scene. She added that by the end they were rushing to finish filming the moment.

“David [Benioff] and Dan [Weiss] were like: ‘You can show as much or as little as you want. So I kept myself pretty private. I don’t think it’s important for Arya to flash. This beat isn’t really about that. And everybody else has already done it on the show, so…” Williams said.

Dempsie also said the experience was strange for him.

“It’s obviously slightly strange for me because I’ve known Maisie since she was 11, 12 years old,” Dempsie told Entertainment Weekly. “At the same time, I don’t want to be patronizing toward Maisie — she’s a 20-year-old woman. So we just had a lot of fun with it.”
