Britney Spears tells fans 'all is well' after #FreeBritney campaign - BBC News

Britney Spears has reassured fans over her wellbeing following internet speculation about her safety.

The pop star put her career on hold in January and reportedly sought mental health treatment last month.

It had been suggested online that she was being held at a mental health facility against her will, sparking the #FreeBritney campaign.

In an Instagram video, Spears rejected the theories, saying "all is well" and that she would "be back very soon".

She added: "My family has been going through a lot of stress and anxiety recently, so I just needed time to deal."

The #FreeBritney allegations led to a fan demonstration calling for her "release" outside West Hollywood City Hall on Monday.

In response, Spears urged fans not to "believe everything you read and hear", adding that her family and those working for her had received death threats due to "rumours" that were "out of control".

'Need for privacy'

The singer, who has two sons aged 12 and 13, has been out of the media spotlight since announcing she was putting her planned Las Vegas residency - and the rest of her career - on hold for the sake of her father, Jamie, who suffered a life-threatening colon rupture last year.

Earlier this month, she posted about the need for "me time", in response to reports that she had checked in to a mental health facility to help her process the trauma.

Referencing her recovery in her latest message, she wrote: "I am trying to take a moment for myself, but everything that's happening is just making it harder for me.

"You may not know this about me, but I am strong, and stand up for what I want! Your love and dedication is amazing, but what I need right now is a little bit of privacy to deal with all the hard things that life is throwing my way.

"If you could do that, I would be forever grateful. Love you."

Disney film properties could earn as much as 45 percent to 50 percent of all ticket sales in North America this summer, industry analysts told The Wrap. By comparison, the company’s movies drew 37 percent of ticket sales during the same period last year.

“Avengers: Endgame” is the biggest draw. The conclusion to Disney’s sprawling superhero saga shattered ticket presale records on nearly every prominent platform and is pacing for a record opening weekend that could approach $300 million in sales in North America alone, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Aside from its flagship Marvel film, Disney has the latest entries in several popular film franchises ready for summer launch. “Toy Story 4,” “The Lion King,” and “Aladdin” are all set to debut in the coming months.

Analysts said the overall domestic summer box office haul should match or surpass last year’s total of $4.8 billion, despite a slow start for the industry in 2019.

'Jeopardy!' champ breaks record, surpasses $1 million in shortest time ever - Fox News

"Jeopardy!" champ James Holzhauer has just broken another record.

On Tuesday's episode, the 34-year-old surpassed $1 million in the shortest time ever. His $118,816 win put his total take at $1,061,554 million after 14 games.

This is the third separate record Holzhauer has shattered since he started competing on the game show. Last Wednesday, he won the episode with a total of $131,127, topping the one-day record he set earlier in his run of $110,914.

'JEOPARDY!' CONTESTANT SETS NEW SINGLE-GAME CASH WINNINGS RECORD

Before Holzhauer came along, the one-day record was held by Roger Craig on September 19, 2010, when he took home $77,000 in a single game.

What was even more exciting was that Holzhauer’s first record-breaking prize, $110,914, held a special numerical significance — it's his daughter birthday. She was born on November 9, 2014 (11/09/14).

“I said all along that I wanted to break Roger Craig’s one-game record and I did it,” Holzhauer said.

Review: In 'Avengers: Endgame,' Somber Reflection Yields Serious Thrills - NPR

I ... was Iron Man: A stranded-in-space Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) shares a somber moment with his suit's A.I. Marvel Studios hide caption

toggle caption
Marvel Studios

Let's start with a bit of service journalism: Going into Avengers: Endgame, one would be well-advised to manage both one's expectations, and – given its three-hour-plus, intermission-less runtime – one's fluid intake.

The film deposits us, in medias res(igned), into a world sunk neck-deep in mourning, though it shows us only fleeting (albeit intriguing) glimpses of how that world's non-spandex contingent is muddling through somehow. No, the film's concerns are the same as ours: For over a year now, we've wondered how the remaining Avengers (particularly founding parents Iron Man, Captain America, Black Widow, Hulk and Thor) would deal with the fact that 50 percent of the universe's living beings vanished into visually striking dust, due entirely to our heroes' collective failure to keep a certain giant purple mesomorphic despot from snapping his bedazzled fingers. (NOTE: This shattering cosmic event has been dubbed "The Snapture" by one minor media semi-luminary who shall remain me. NOTE THE SECOND: Marvel has not officially signed on to said coinage. NOTE THE THIRD: But they totally should. NOTE THE FOURTH: Because, come on.)

The film's decision to breeze over how fundamentally the world has changed around our heroes may have as much to do with directors Anthony and Joe Russo's desire to make a movie about the intersection of communal grief and personal guilt as it does with the fact that said film is being made in a post-The-Leftovers media universe – after all, that series cornered the market on depicting what a collective, aching loss looks like on a global scale.

Instead, Avengers: Endgame burns through the first two hours of its three-hour running time showing us how its heroes have dutifully arranged themselves at various way-stations along the spectrum of the Kubler-Ross stages of grief: wet-eyed denial, violent rage, disingenuous bargaining, beer-soaked depression, and performatively optimistic (and not entirely sincere) acceptance. This is where the aforementioned expectation management will serve you well, particularly if one of the (perfectly reasonable!) expectations you're clinging to is that the culminating chapter of the Avengers saga must and should take the form of a wall-to-wall cosmic brawl, from the jump. Because the film's first two hours prove a resolutely intimate and unapologetically somber cinematic experience, overall – albeit one punctuated by bracing and welcome jolts of humor from Chris Hemsworth's newly bleary Thor, Mark Ruffalo's freshly smarmy Hulk and Paul Rudd's as-always goofy Ant-Man.

It cannot possibly be a spoiler to note that our heroes – eventually — band together in an attempt to reverse the effects of The Snapture. Nor can it be a spoiler to note that said early attempts have no real hope of success, unless and until help arrives from unlooked-for sources. (The sheer narrative breadth of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, peopled (and raccooned, and treed) as it is with so many different characters both Snaptured and un-, ensures that an any given story moment, our brains refuse to contain them all. So in those instances when unlooked-for help does arrive in the nick of time, it can't help but come as a surprise, because you'll have legitimately forgotten about its sources' existence.)

The Russos' decision to stick close to the experiences of the remaining Avengers proves a rewarding one, as they've expressly constructed the film as an extended victory lap for the Marvel Cinematic Universe writ large. Got a favorite character from any Marvel movie over the past decade, no matter how obscure? Prepare to get serviced, fan. Because the film's third and final hour contains extended references to every single Marvel film that has led up to this one – yes! even Thor: The Dark World! I'm as surprised as you are! – and part of the delight Endgame provides to the patient audience member is gauging the size of the cheer that greets the entrance of any given hero, locale or – in at least once instance – item of super-hardware.

Make no mistake: There will be cheers. And boos. And gasps. The final, climactic battle (come on, you knew there'd be one) is legitimately thrilling, because every one of its manifold delights is fueled by (a cynic would say coasting on) the warm familiarity that spending a decade with these characters has engendered.

Yes, on one level, it's just more smash-em-up superhero CGI spectacle, but it's spectacle so thoroughly grounded in a devoutly earned, hard-won and entirely un-dismissible affection that at one crucial moment, it is capable, using something as hopelessly cheesy, as ridiculous, as hokey, as idiotic, as childish as the onscreen utterance of a superhero catchphrase, of sending a lump to the throat.

That's not a thing that should happen, 22 films into a franchise owned and maintained by a bloated global mega-corporation that cares more about keeping its shareholders happy than any critic or audience member. And yet the sniffles I heard around me in the film's press screening were just as real as any quarterly earnings statement. Realer, on a human level. And they were a direct product of Marvel's learned ability, after so many accreted hours of cinematic storytelling, to target the emotions of Nerd and Normal alike with a laserlike, ruthless efficiency.

And if you're still balking at that runtime, consider: Of all the entertainments that take more than 3 hours to unspool – Verdi's Rigoletto, say, or O'Neill's Mourning Becomes Electra, or NFL football – how many can be legitimately said to boast a ruthless efficiency?

How Are William and Kate Staying Positive in the Midst of the Cheating Rumors? - The Cheat Sheet

Unless you’ve been completely out of the loop recently, you are well aware that yet another scandal has been surrounding the royal family. This time, it involves Prince William and Kate Middleton.

There has been speculation that the future king cheated on his wife with none other than her close friend, Rose Hanbury. Luckily, Kensington Palace responded to the rumors, saying they are not true, and royal fans are relieved. Cheating rumors are not easy on any couple, but when you are one of the most high-profile couples in the entire world, it makes it significantly harder. So, how are William and Kate staying positive in the midst of all of the gossip?

Were Rose Hanbury and Kate Middleton friends?

They definitely were. Rose and her husband have been close friends of William and Kate for quite a few years. The two women, in particular, had a wonderful friendship. Apparently, Kate had been pulling away in recent months, and some tabloids came to the unproven conclusion that it was a result of an affair between Rose and William. Luckily, these were nothing more than rumors, and it would appear that William stayed faithful to Kate, which is what his fans always knew in their hearts.

Was Kate Middleton going to leave?

Fortunately, the rumors never got so bad that Kate considered leaving. The entire world would be devastated if that were to happen, and most people probably wouldn’t be able to handle seeing William so heartbroken. It is evident that William and Kate have a strong, loving, and trusting marriage, and they are able to deal with whatever comes their way. We are sure that the couple realizes that being in the spotlight is difficult even at the best of times, and whenever anyone is in the public eye, rumors are sure to get started.

How are Prince William and Kate Middleton staying positive?

By focusing on each other! Although they may have been dealing with the drama of cheating rumors, something that no married couple ever wants to experience, they fully understand that love comes first.

They recently enjoyed a fun trip with Prince George and Princess Charlotte at the Burnham Market international horse trials, where they were seen laughing, talking, and enjoying their time together. There seemed to be no tension between the duke and duchess as they relaxed and made the most of the day.

Prince William and Kate Middleton are able to communicate with each other

Chances are, William and Kate have had no problems communicating when they are alone. Between the two of them, they were likely able to talk about the rumors and clear up any misunderstandings that there may have been. Kate and William have been together for many years, and they have given us no indication that there is any sort of trouble in their marriage.

Prince William and Kate Middleton care deeply for each other

We can tell by looking at them how much they truly love and care for each other and their three children. Even more, they sneak in subtle signs of affection whenever they can, such as when Kate adorably rested her hand on William’s knee at his cousin Eugenie’s wedding several months ago. Staying positive when cheating rumors are going around can surely take its toll on any couple, even the future king and his queen consort! We are so happy that the couple is doing fine and not letting the stress of the rumors affect them in any way!

"Avengers" Fans Are Gushing Over Chris Evans And Danai Gurira After This Pure Red Carpet Moment - BuzzFeed

Marvel heroes were out in full force on Monday for the LA premiere of Avengers: Endgame and the cast gave us the content and fashion looks we so rightfully deserved.

But the one thing I can't stop thinking about is this extra sweet moment between two of the surviving Avengers, Chris Evans (Captain America) and Danai Gurira (Okoye).

The friendly interaction was caught on Marvel Studios's Instagram Stories.

After spotting each other on the carpet, the two embraced in a hug that I desperately wanted to be in the middle of.

Then Chris whispered something in Danai's ear that made her burst out laughing.

But whatever he told her, Danai immediately played it off and denied it...while Chris repeated, "You did!"

For some reason I like the video even more, because I have no idea what they're talking about. Like an outsider trying to laugh at someone else's inside joke.

But a few fans couldn't help but speculate, believing Chris was playfully reminding Danai about the time she identified a photo of his butt in less than five seconds.

Like this fan:

Chris totally told Danai he saw that interview where she recognizes his butt, I JUST KNOW IT πŸ’€

And this fan:

oh they are DEFINITELY talking about that video where danai identifies chris' butt i know it https://t.co/C1ckZynuSP

And now I refuse to believe that conversation went any other way, because, same Danai...same.

Even if we never find out what they were joking around about on the carpet, that won't stop fans from shipping a relationship between them...

...gushing over how adorable their bond is...

...fully internalizing the moment as a year-long mood...

I appreciate the fuck outta Marvel Studios Instagram for that Danai and Chris Evans hug. It'll last me a whole year lmao. My favs tho. So majestic.

...and imagining them in a spinoff rom-com together.

Can you imagine the romcom staring Chris Evans and Danai Gurira? Cuz I can. #AvengersEndgamePremiere

Honestly, the opportunities are endless with these two. I'm just glad I got to witness this pure encounter, before my heart gets ripped to shreds in the new film.

Be sure to catch Avengers: Endgame when it hits theaters nationwide on April 26.

Brothers accused of attacking Jussie Smollett sue his attorneys for defamation - Fox News

Abel and Ola Osundairo, the brothers accused of attacking Jussie Smollett in January — then later accused of helping him stage the alleged hate crime hoax — have filed a defamation lawsuit against the "Empire" star's attorneys, Tina Glandian and Mark Geragos, and Geragos' firm, Fox News has learned.

The suit alleges that Geragos and his firm continued to say publicly in widely reported statements that the brothers "led a criminally homophobic, racist and violent attack against Mr. Smollett," even though they allegedly knew that wasn't true.

The brothers are seeking punitive damages as well as lost income in the lawsuit.

CHICAGO FILES CIVIL COMPLAINT AGAINST JUSSIE SMOLLETT

The Osundairos' attorney, Gloria Schmidt, quoted Smollett, 36, in a press conference Tuesday in Chicago, telling reporters, "'I will never be the man that this did not happen to. I will be forever changed.'" She said of her clients and the Chicago Police Department, "Now they can say that same statement. My city, my police department and my clients deserve to have their reputations restored."

Schmidt slammed Geragos and Glandian's alleged "continued false statements and hateful rhetoric" against the brothers following the alleged hoax.

JUSSIE SMOLLETT ALLEGED HATE CRIME HOAX SHEDS LIGHT ON SIMILAR FALSE ACCUSATIONS

DOJ, FBI TO REVIEW 'OUTRAGEOUS' JUSSIE SMOLLETT DECISION, DONALD TRUMP SAYS

"That is why today we are taking action in federal court," she said. "We want to end these malicious attacks and ensure that those responsible for continuing to destroy the reputation of the Chicago Police Department and Abel and Ola Osundairo are held accountable."

"The Chicagoan brothers told the truth," Schmidt said. "They could have remained silent, but they told the truth to the police, and with their right hands in the air, they told the truth to the grand jury." She later said they were "asked to do something by a friend that they trusted, and later that friend betrayed their trust."

CHICAGO POLICE SMELL A RAT IN DISMISSAL OF JUSSIE SMOLLETT CHARGES

In a statement Schmidt read during the press conference, the brothers said, "We have sat back and watched lie after lie being fabricated about us in the media only so one big lie can continue to have life. These lies are destroying our character and our reputation and our personal and professional lives. Those who know us personally know we don't have hate for anyone. That is not who we are. We try to spread love and positivity to everyone we come in contact with. We will no longer sit back and allow these lies to continue."

Schmidt also noted that the Osundairos actively participated in the alleged publicity stunt, but did not participate in calling or lying to the police. Attorney Gregory Kulis said the Osundairos have had trouble making ends meet and lost work since the Smollett attack occurred.

BROTHER INVOLVED IN ALLEGED JUSSIE SMOLLETT HATE ATTACK HOAX WINS AMATEUR BOXING TITLE

"No one should be surprised by this lawsuit," attorney James Tunick said. "[The defendants] know the extent of their false and vicious remarks." Tunick said that there are "numerous false statements" in their 16-page lawsuit, many of which he says were made after the charges against Smollett were dropped. Tunick said his team has "actual evidence" that contradicts statements Geragos and Glandian allegedly made. Tunick did not specify, however, what the evidence was.

FORMER U.S. ATTORNEY SAYS FBI LIKELY TO INVESTIGATE SUSPICION AROUND JUSSIE SMOLLETT CASE

JUSSIE SMOLLETT'S ATTORNEY THREATENS RAHM EMANUEL, CITY OF CHICAGO IF THEY FILE LAWSUIT

In January, Smollett told authorities that two masked men attacked him, put a rope around his neck and poured bleach on him as he was walking home from a Subway restaurant. The actor, who is black and openly gay, said the masked men beat him, made racist and homophobic comments and yelled, "This is MAGA country" before fleeing the scene. Surveillance video reportedly revealed the Osundairo brothers purchasing the rope allegedly used in the attack.

JUSSIE SMOLLETT'S BROTHER SPEAKS OUT, SAYS ACTOR IS A 'VICTIM' AND TOLD THE TRUTH

Smollett was later arrested for allegedly filing a false police report and faced 16 counts of disorderly conduct. The charges against the actor were dropped. Smollett has maintained his innocence and insists the attack was real. The city of Chicago has since sued the actor in an effort to recoup resources spent investigating the alleged hoax.

The Chicago Police Department alleged in March that the Osundairo brothers became cooperating witnesses in the investigation into Smollett, alleging that the singer-actor paid the Osundairos by check for a "phony attack" in order to take "advantage of the pain and anger of racism to promote his career." Smollett has repeatedly and vehemently denied the allegations, saying he paid the brothers for physical training.

CAN JUSSIE SMOLLETT COME BACK FROM ALLEGED HATE CRIME HOAX? CRISIS EXPERTS SPEAK OUT

When questioned about Smollett's claim that his attackers were white, Glandian previously alleged that the Osundairos may have been wearing white makeup at the time of the attack.

"He did tell police that from what he saw, he thought it was white or pale skin, that's what he initially said," Glandian said on "Today" on March 28, adding, "Obviously, you can disguise that. You can put makeup on." She then pointed to a 2016 YouTube video of Abel Osundairo wearing white makeup on his face to dress up as the Joker for a costume.

Glandian also told "Good Morning America" that the Osundairos lied about their participation in the alleged hoax attack.

JUDGE NAPOLITANO: HERE'S WHAT THE FBI, JUSTICE DEPARTMENT WILL LOOK FOR IN JUSSIE SMOLLETT INVESTIGATION

Schmidt previously told Fox News of the Osundairo brothers' role in the alleged hoax, "What they did, and I'll say have they tremendous regret over their role and their participation in this, but what they did was accept payment for training that also encompassed doing a favor for this person. It's not an easy narrative to say, 'Oh, OK, let's just take $3,500 for this."

COOK COUNTY STATE'S ATTORNEY KIM FOXX CALLED JUSSIE SMOLLETT 'WASHED UP CELEB' IN LEAKED TEXT MESSAGES

Schmidt insisted at the time that Smollett took advantage of the brothers, adding, "They are remorseful for their involvement. That's without a doubt. I was there to witness their realization process, to see that this was something that was going to effect tremendous people across the board, have an enormous impact on minority populations — I was there to see that realization process, and they are remorseful for that."

Geragos and Glandian, who were not yet served in the lawsuit, did not immediately return Fox News' requests for comment on the defamation claims.
