Kim Kardashian announced the name of her fourth child with Kanye West on Friday — Psalm — and social media lit up with sneers.

Kardashian tweeted the words Psalm West with an image of the swaddled infant boy born May 9.

"With the arrival of our fourth child ... we are blessed beyond measure," a message on that image said. "We have everything we need."

The predominant gut response of social media was apparently to make fun of the name with images of church (a psalm is a sacred song), laughing faces and shaking heads.

Comedian John Fugelsang tweeted a reference to the annual South by Southwest conference in Austin, Texas: "Kim & Kanye have every right to name the baby Psalm West but I was honestly hoping they’d name this one South By South."

Culture critic Ira Madison III tweeted, "Psalm West sounds like a 1941 Errol Flynn movie but ok."

Betches, the Twitter account for the comedic social media collective of the same name, remarked, "Psalm West sounds like the location of a new desert music festival that costs $1,000 a ticket."

Baby naming experts weren't as amused.

Laura Wattenberg, founder of namerology.com, which compiles data on the most popular baby names in the U.S., said more and more parents are opting for nontraditional names.

"A baby name is a very personal choice more today than ever before," she said. "Kim and Kanye aren’t the only ones who have given up naming baby after grandpa."

However, the name isn't unique, according to her data. In 2018, 15 newborns — seven boys and eight girls —were named Psalm.

"It’s part of a trend toward creativity that’s seen lots and lots of parents turning words into names," Wattenberg said.

Sherri Suzanne, founder of naming consultancy My Name for Life, said by email that Psalm shows the thematic influence of the Kardashian-West family, which includes sisters North, 5, and Chicago, 1, and brother Saint, 3.

"Kim and Kanye seem to work hard to give the siblings names that have similar 'character,'" she said. "This is true of parents I work with as well, whether they favor unusual or traditional names. I wouldn’t expect to find many Psalms in your child’s kindergarten class anytime soon."

Wattenberg noted that the West boys and girls are divided by theme.

"The boys both have exalted, religious names and girls have nothing of the sort," she said. "It feels like you’re setting the boys and girls apart."

Taron Egerton Reacts to Crying After ‘Rocketman’ Cannes Premiere and Going Viral - IndieWire

Fresh off a buzzy world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival, Taron Egerton joined his “Rocketman” director Dexter Fletcher and co-stars for a Friday morning press conference in which reporters couldn’t resist asking about one of the most viral moments of the festival so far. After the premiere screening of “Rocketman” wrapped on Thursday evening, Egerton was spotted in the audience crying as viewers rose from their chairs to give the actor a massive standing ovation. Videos of Egerton crying began circulating around the internet with millions of views collectively.

“Alright, alright. Let’s stop talking about it,” Egerton said with a laugh when asked about his tearful reaction. “I got a bit emotional. It was one of the best days of my life.”

Egerton continued, “We have worked really hard to try and make something that we are all really proud of. It’s not your typical biopic. We don’t deal with the songs in a chronological order. There are elements of fantasy. We take some license with the truth, people did not float off the ground at The Troubadour. The response has been so wonderful. For me, personally, thank you so much to everyone that said nice things. You’ve made a young man from Aberystwyth incredibly happy. You’ve made a 72-year-old rock star even more happy. So thank you very much.”

Fletcher was equally emotionally, adding, “It was emotional to sit there with Bernie Taupin and Elton and David Furnish, his husband, and have that moment where they get to watch the film together and, as the filmmaker, to watch it with them.”

“I was quite overwhelmed and thrilled,” co-star Richard Madden said. “It was one electric evening a lot of people worked hard for number of years. It was great.”

Reactions to Egerton’s performance have been strong, with many saying he’s been launched into this year’s awards race and is an easy contender for at least a Golden Globe nomination because the movie is an actual musical and won’t compete in the drama categories. Egerton did all his own singing in the film, in which he plays Elton John across several years. The movie has already gained attention for taking an R-rated approach to John’s life story, which includes frank depictions of drug use and gay sex.

Paramount Pictures will release “Rocketman” in theaters nationwide May 31. Watch the viral video of Egerton crying below.

Grumpy Cat, the grouchy-faced furball that launched a thousand memes, is dead - CNN

The furry sensation's family announced her death on Twitter on Friday.
"We are unimaginably heartbroken to announce the loss of our beloved Grumpy Cat," Tabatha Bundesen, Grumpy Cat's owner, said.
"Despite care from top professionals, as well as from her very loving family, Grumpy encountered complications from a recent urinary tract infection that unfortunately became too tough for her to overcome. She passed away peacefully on the morning of Tuesday, May 14, at home in the arms of her mommy, Tabatha.
"Besides being our baby and a cherished member of the family, Grumpy Cat has helped millions of people smile all around the world -- even when times were tough. Her spirit will continue to live on through her fans everywhere," Bundesen, who lives in Morristown Arizona, wrote.
Grumpy Cat, real name Tardar Sauce, had feline dwarfism. This, her owners said, probably accounted for her distinctive facial features and small size.
She became an internet celebrity in September 2012, when Tabatha's brother Bryan posted photos showing her in all her disgruntled glory on the r/pics sub-Reddit.
Users on the platform immediately reacted by posting countless Photoshopped variations on the original, while the photo's Imgur page reached 1,030,000 views in its first 48 hours.
On the same day, the Bundesen family posted video clips of Tardar Sauce on YouTube, which racked up millions of views.
"It was suggested that the original photo was Photoshopped, so we posted a few videos on YouTube," the owners said on the official Grumpy Cat website.
Her popularity was sealed by her participation at the South by Southwest Interactive (SXSW) festival in Austin, Texas. People stood in line for hours to get their pictures taken with her, while she mostly ignored her fans. CNN, among others, called her the festival's biggest star.
Grumpy Cat became such a cultural phenomenon that she inspired art projects, perfumes, merchandise, Skechers shoes, comics and even a "Grumppuccino" coffee.
She was also the official "spokescat" for Friskies, and appeared on several US TV shows, including Today and Good Morning America.
Last year, US coffee company Grenade was ordered to pay the Bundesens $710,000 for exceeding an agreement to use her image.
At the time of her death, Grumpy Cat had 1.5 million followers on Twitter, 2.4 million on Instagram and 8.5 million on Facebook.

'The Big Bang Theory' finale recap: Huge surprises mark the sitcom's heartfelt farewell - Fox News

"The Big Bang Theory" finished off its long and successful run as television's top-rated comedy with a low-key but emotional farewell to the intrepid gang of nerdy misfits.

[SPOILER ALERT: The remainder of this episode will discuss the final episode of "The Big Bang Theory."]

The long-running series on CBS concluded with two final episodes, "The Change Constant" and "The Stockholm Syndrome," in an hour-long finale Thursday evening. The series exited the airwaves with the most episodes for a multi-camera series ever with 279 episodes. It edged past NBC's "Cheers," which aired for 12 seasons and 275 episodes.

Thursday's finale was followed by a behind-the-scenes look at the show in "Unraveling the Mystery: A Big Bang Farewell" with Johnny Galecki, who played Leonard, and Kaley Cuoco, who played Penny, as hosts.

'THE BIG BANG THEORY' STARS REFLECT ON SERIES ENDING

During the finale, the show's friends took one last trip together to support married couple Sheldon (Jim Parsons) and Amy (Mayim Bialik) after they won the Nobel Prize in physics. The couple waited anxiously by the phone while friends prank called them before receiving the actual decision.

The final episodes were filled with a few surprises including news of Penny's pregnancy, a surprise cameo from Sarah Michelle Gellar and the elevator finally being fixed after it had been broken for much of the series.

It included a scene in which Bialik, who is a neuroscientist in real life, urges young girls to pursue careers in science during her Nobel acceptance speech. "Little girls who dream about science" should ignore naysayers, she said.

In a fitting end, the often self-absorbed Sheldon followed his wife with his own heartfelt speech about the importance of friendship where he finally thanked the gang for putting up with his various eccentricities over the years.

‘BIG BANG THEORY’ STAR JOHNNY GALECKI SHARES EMOTIONAL VIDEO OF THE SHOW’S SET BEING PACKED UP

"The Big Bang Theory" debuted in 2007 and overcame early doubts to become a cult classic after some questioned the show's chances of survival. With its live audience and use of multiple cameras, the series is a throwback to comedies from the early days of television, but its formula proved popular.

The show was led by a crew of nerdy misfits starring Parsons, Cuoco, Galecki, Bialik, Simon Helberg, Kunal Nayyar and Melissa Rauch.

It won 10 Emmy Awards, including four for Parsons.

The comedy leaves on a high as one of television's most popular shows. Last week's episode was the most-watched program on broadcast or cable TV with 12.5 million viewers, beating out HBO's "Game of Thrones," which ends its series on Sunday after an eight-year run.

Parsons has said the end of the series feels like a "real rite of passage moment," which was full of memories and some tears. Galecki said the show has touched "so many hearts."

Grumpy Cat, Internet Celebrity With a Piercing Look of Contempt, Is Dead at 7 - The New York Times

Grumpy Cat, the ubiquitous internet celebrity whose permanent scowl spoke for all of us in our darkest moments, died in the arms of her “mommy” on Tuesday, her family said on Friday. She was 7.

The cat, whose actual name is Tardar Sauce and who hailed from Arizona, died after complications arose from a urinary tract infection, her family wrote on Twitter.

“Besides being our baby and a cherished member of the family, Grumpy Cat has helped millions of people smile all around the world — even when times were tough,” according to the post.

Many cats have had moments of mini-fame on the internet, but few, if any, have had the reach and staying power of Grumpy Cat. She first rose to prominence six years ago, after her owner posted a photo to Reddit, captioned “Meet grumpy cat.”

The sourpuss with the piercing look of contempt quickly became a meme, and placing bold words above and below her frown became a common way for humans to express grumpy thoughts.

Perhaps the most famous: “I had fun once. It was awful.”

Grumpy Cat’s visage was named the Meme of the Year at the 2013 Webby Awards, beating out “Gangnam Style” and “Harlem Shake.” Many memes come and go, but her owner, Tabatha Bundesen, turned the cat’s face into the center of a thriving business.

Her likeness appeared on nearly 900 items in an official shop, she made a television advertisement for “Honey Nut Cheerios,” and she became the official “spokescat” of Friskies, a cat food brand. The cat starred in a Lifetime Christmas movie, “Grumpy Cat’s Worst Christmas Ever,” she was on the cover of New York Magazine, and her book hit No. 7 on The New York Times’s advice, how-to and miscellaneous best-seller list.

Estimates ranged widely on how much Grumpy Cat was worth, though Ms. Bundesen disputed a 2014 report that the cat had earned her $100 million. In 2018, Ms. Bundesen won $710,000 in a copyright infringement suit against a coffee company that made Grumpy Cat Grumppuccino.

The cat’s famous scowl was the result of feline dwarfism, her family said, and though she was a mixed breed, her owners were unsure of the specific mix.

On the cat’s website, her owners maintain that Grumpy Cat wasn’t grumpy at all.

“She is a super cute and cuddly kitty and loves to be held and rubbed,” they wrote.

Meme and animal lovers out there will be saddened to hear that the internet star Grumpy Cat has passed away. The news was revealed by Grumpy Cat’s owners on her official Twitter account. Grumpy Cat’s owners said the feline died on Tuesday, May 14, “at home in the arms of her mommy, Tabatha.” The cause of death was complications from a recent urinary tract infection.

In announcing the passing, Grumpy Cat’s owners said, “Besides being our baby and a cherished member of the family, Grumpy Cat has helped millions of people smile all around the world–even when times were tough. Her spirit will continue to live on through her fans everywhere.”

Grumpy Cat, whose given name is “Tardar Sauce,” originally shot to fame in 2012 after one of Grumpy Cat’s owners posted a photo of her on Reddit. She quickly became a meme sensation due to the permanent frown she appeared to wear. Since then, the Grumpy Cat Twitter account has amassed over 1.5 million followers and her Instagram account has over 2 million followers.

Grumpy Cat was 7 years old when she passed away at home in Phoenix.
