Anderson Cooper's Intimate On-Air Tribute to His Mother Will Leave You in Tears: WATCH - Towleroad

Anderson Cooper offered a touching recorded eulogy earlier this week on the morning of his mother Gloria Vanderbilt’s death at 95 , but last night he returned to the air on CNN and gave another one. The CNN anchor held back tears, but you may not be able to.

“I wanted to take a few moments to thank all of you who have reached out to me about the death of my mom, Gloria Vanderbilt,” said Anderson. “Your calls, your texts and Tweets have truly meant a lot. My mom would be stunned by all the attention and the kind words written and spoken about her. I know this because when I got her to join Instagram when she was like 92 or so she didn’t think anyone would actually follow her. ‘Why would anyone be interested?’ she asked. It wasn’t long before she had some 200,000 followers and it tickled her beyond belief.”

“My mom found out June 8th that she had cancer,” Anderson explained. “She lived nine more days. To be able to spend those nine days and nights with her was a great, great blessing. They were the most extraordinary days of my life and I’m very grateful. She died Monday shortly after 4:00 A.M., and though I was holding her hand and her head when she took her last breath it’s still a little hard for me to believe she’s gone.”

Said Anderson, holding back tears: “One of her friends explained her sadness by describing my mom as her north star, a person she used as a guide, a kind of light in the darkness. I never realized until now how much she was my north star as well. And right now things seem less bright. My dad died when I was 10, and my brother when I was 21. She was the last of my immediate family who knew me from the beginning and they’re all gone and it feels very lonely right now. I hope they are at least together.”

He continued: “I’m happy I was able to make the latter years of her life comfortable and fulfilling. When I die that might be the thing I’m most proud of. She knew me and I knew her, and there’s great comfort in that. ‘You and I, it’s a match made in heaven,’ she said to me last week. ‘We’re a good team,’ I told her. We stayed up late that night holding hands and when she got sleepy she said to me ‘What a wonderful night,’ and it was. Perhaps our best.”

'Stranger Things' Final Trailer sets the stage for season three - Engadget

Since premiering in July 2016, Stranger Things has become an award-winning and widely-appreciated Netflix series. Season three is almost ready for release on July 4th -- along with a game for Xbox One, PS4, Switch, PC and mobile devices -- and after a few brief teasers Netflix has delivered a "final trailer" that gives us some strong hints of how things are going in 1985-era Hawkins, IN. (If you'd like to go into it fresh then I don't recommend reading further or watching it.)

Eleven, Mike, Will, Dustin, Lucas, Max and the rest of our friends are of course back and taller than ever, but it appears that last season's quest to cut off an attacker from the Upside Down by closing an interdimensional gate wasn't as successful as everyone hoped. With some Jurassic Park-style flair (apparently the show is now cribbing from 90s features too) we're teased by The Mind Flayer and its minions, complete with a voiceover explaining exactly how much danger everyone is in: "We're going to end you. We're going to end your friends. We're going to end... everyone."

Harry Potter: Wizards Unite is out now for iOS and Android in the US - The Verge

Pokémon Go creator Niantic Labs’ newest augmented reality game based on the Harry Potter universe is available now for both iOS and Android in the US, a day earlier than we anticipated it would launch in the region. The game, called Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, is similar in style to Pokémon Go, asking players to traverse a virtual map overlaid on the real world and collect magical artifacts.

Originally, Niantic and its partner Portkey Games, the new subsidiary of Warner Bros. Games dedicated to the J.K. Rowling franchise, said the title would be available on Friday, June 21st in the US and the UK as part of the beginning of its global rollout. It’s not clear if it is also available in the UK, but US users should have no problem downloading it if they follow the App Store and Play Store links above.

Wizards Unite first launched in beta in Australia and New Zealand back in May, making those markets the first in the world to get access to the title. Now, it appears Potter fans stateside can get their hands on the game a day early.

The early launch is not all that unexpected, as mobile games tend to be pushed out on a rolling basis and arrive in regions at various times of day over the course of what usually ends up being a multiday launch event. We saw that with Pokémon Go back in the summer of 2016. So while June 21st may have been pegged as the official global rollout, the US is getting it early likely through some mix of luck and fortunate mobile app backend logistics.

Thom Yorke Releasing New Album 'ANIMA,' Netflix Film With Paul Thomas Anderson - Stereogum

Lately Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke has been doing all the things a musical artist does to ramp up to an album release. There have been teasers and tour announcements and vague interview statements. And now we know the details.

ANIMA is out 6/27. It’s Yorke’s first solo LP since 2014’s Tomorrow’s Modern Boxes (unless you’re counting his Suspiria score from last year). It contains nine tracks, some of which have been debuted live, such as “The Axe” and “I Am A Very Rude Person.” The vinyl release has a bonus track called “(LADIES & GENTLEMEN, THANK YOU FOR COMING).” It seems to be a concept album about Anima Technologies, a company that often poses the question, “Do you have trouble remembering your dreams?” It fits with statements Yorke has made about the album dealing with anxiety and being dystopian in nature — themes Yorke has a lot of experience communicating beautifully.

The new album will arrive accompanied by a “one-reeler” starring Yorke and directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, who has been closely involved with Radiohead in recent years. If you, like me, are wondering what a “one-reeler” is, the trailer explains that it’s a 10- to 12-minute movie, usually a cartoon and/or comedy, that fits on one reel of film and was popular during the silent film era. The one-reeler will be streaming on Netflix and is set to three songs from the album. It’s described like so: “In a short musical film directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, Thom Yorke of Radiohead scores and stars in a mind-bending visual piece. Best played loud.”

Check out Yorke’s announcement post below, where you can also check out the tracklist and the latest ANIMA teaser video.

TRACKLIST:
01 “TRAFFIC”
02 “LAST I HEARD (…HE WAS CIRCLING THE DRAIN)”
03 “TWIST”
04 “DAWN CHORUS”
05 “I AM A VERY RUDE PERSON”
06 “NOT THE NEWS”
07 “THE AXE”
08 “IMPOSSIBLE KNOTS”
09 “RUNWAYAWAY”
10 “(LADIES & GENTLEMEN, THANK YOU FOR COMING)” (vinyl-only bonus track)

ANIMA is out 6/27. Pre-order it here as a CD, standard double vinyl, or a deluxe double vinyl book with lots of extras such as “A BEAUTIFUL HARDBACK BOOK CONTAINING BOTH THE LYRICS AND MANY STRANGE DRAWINGS DONE IN PENCIL BY STANLEY DONWOOD & DR TCHOCK.”

Granger Smith shares details about the tragic accidental death of his 3-year-old son - Fox News

Country singer Granger Smith and his wife, Amber, gave an update on how they’re doing as well as details about the tragic accident that killed their 3-year-old son, River, earlier this month.

The couple shared the news with their fans that their son had died in an accidental drowning at their home in Texas. He thanked first responders for their swift action but noted that doctors were unable to revive him.

“Amber and I made the decision to say our last goodbyes and donate his organs so that other children will be given a second chance at life,” he wrote on Instagram at the time. “Our family is devastated and heartbroken, but we take solace in knowing he is with his Heavenly Father.”

In a YouTube video posted by the couple Wednesday, Granger shed some light on what happened on that tragic day. The “Backroad Song” crooner says he was doing gymnastics with his 7-year-old daughter, London, as his sons, River and Lincoln Monarch, 5, were playing with water guns. He recalls thinking to himself that he should “soak up this moment because it’s not going to last.”

The star said he found himself performing CPR by their pool just minutes later.

The couple said they’re taking solace in their faith, with Granger explaining that “God gave River to us for three years and that was his mission”

“I don’t think God takes anyone too soon. I believe he was put on this earth for the exact amount of time,” he said.

“He lived a good 1,000 days,” Granger continued. “That’s a huge example for me and how we’re going to look at every single day.”

The couple says that viewing their son’s death through the lens of faith is helping them cope. In addition, they say that they’re relationship is growing stronger in the wake of the incredibly sad event.

“We are stronger than ever. We’ve gotten so close,” Granger said. “We are going to constantly search for the meaning [behind the accident], not the reason, not going to get caught up in the reason because we will never know, but we will find the good.”

'Jeopardy!' champ James Holzhauer honors Alex Trebek with pancreatic cancer donation - USA TODAY

"Jeopardy!" champion James Holzhauer made a donation to a pancreatic cancer research walk in his hometown in honor of Alex Trebek.

"Jeopardy!" host Trebek announced in March he's battling stage 4 pancreatic cancer. In May, the longtime host of the popular TV game show said he's in "near remission."

Holzhauer donated $1,109.14, "For Alex Trebek and all the other survivors," to the Naperville Pancreatic Cancer Research Walk campaign page of Ann Zediker, a native of Naperville, Illinois, where Holzhauer used to live.

The amount is a reference to Holzhauer's daughter's birthday: Nov. 9, 2014.

Zediker told the Chicago Tribune she reached out to Holzhauer to see if he'd be interested in joining the walk, which takes place July 14. She told the newspaper Holzhauer declined but sent a donation instead.

“My gut told me it was the right thing to do,” she told the Tribune. “It couldn’t hurt.”

Zediker's father died in 2010 of pancreatic cancer, according to the Tribune.

“I’m just a Naperville mom, but I have to do something about this disease,” Zediker told the newspaper. “The only hope I have is research.”

The walk raises funds for the Lustgarten Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research. The nonprofit dedicates 100% of donations to pancreatic cancer research.

Holzhauer rose to fame during his 33-day run on the popular quiz show. He won $2,464,216, including $2,000 for his second-place finish to Emma Boettcher, who unseated him. He fell $56,484 short of the all-time record set by Ken Jennings.
