Summerfest investigating after Lizzo says security attacked her crew - WDJT

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- After her highly anticipated Summerfest performance, singer Lizzo said in a series of tweets that a security guard "tackled and attacked her team at Summerfest."

Summerfest responded via social media saying:

"Lizzo gave an incredible performance which she now feels is tarnished by events which occurred during the performance. We do not tolerate racism in any form. We will conduct a thorough investigation. We have experienced crowd management staff who strive to protect performers & fans. While there may be challenges during a performance, we expect those challenges to be handled professionally & respectfully. If those standards were not met, we will take appropriate action."

Lizzo acknowledged and thanked Summerfest for its response. She said her team would be filing a complaint against the guard.

The singer later tweeted a video saying there was "nothing like 10,000 people" singing along with one of her hit songs. She called her Summerfest show the "best show ever."

#KimOhYes: Singapore-themed kimono at G20 Summit sparks joy for social media users - Coconuts

Kimonos sure have been getting a lot attention on the internet this week (you’ve probably poked around a few #KimOhNo Twitter threads by now).

In a tiny redemption of kimono integrity, we have for you today a kimono that has been attracting the right kind of social media attention.

Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong is currently in the city of Osaka, Japan for the G20 summit, which kicked off earlier today. As he and major political leaders from around the world meet to discuss international finance policy and issues over the next two days, PM Lee took to social media this morning to post these images of himself, alongside his wife Ho Ching.

In the photos, the couple are seen posing with a Japanese representative at the summit, Yui Yamada, who wore a special Singapore-ified kimono to greet the Lees.

Received a gracious welcome yesterday evening by Miss Yui Yamada in her unique kimono – a beautiful blend of exquisite Japanese workmanship and the iconic sights and symbols of Singapore!” he wrote in a post published on his Facebook page this morning.

The traditional handwoven kimono seen on Yamada was designed by students from Kagoshima Prefecture, who integrated the Lion City’s most iconic imagery into the cloth: the Merlion, our national flower Vanda Miss Joaquim and the Singapore skyline.

The design was first unveiled by the Singapore embassy in Tokyo in March this year, and was produced as part of the ambitious “Imagine Oneworld” project launched five years ago. The project aims to make kimonos representing each of the 196 countries expected to join the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Most of the people who commented on PM Lee’s post expressed pride and approval at seeing this aspect of Singaporean culture represented in an event as globally significant as the G20 summit, which typically gathers leaders from the countries with the biggest and fastest-growing economies in the world.

Some were also quick to compare the kimono to reality TV star Kim Kardashian’s latest business venture — a new line of form-fitting shapewear named Kimono — pointing out that this garment is a good example of cultural appreciation, and not appropriation.

In case you’re not yet familiar with the Kardashian kontroversy of the week, Kim’s choice to name her shapewear line after the traditional Japanese garment — as well as her attempt to file a trademark on the name for this brand in the US — has (rightfully) provoked the ire of internet users across the world, particularly among English-speaking individuals of Japanese descent.

The kimono is seen as a significant piece of Japan’s historical, cultural and artistic pride, and is usually only worn for formal affairs. Kardashian’s attempt to claim the word for her line of what’s essentially underwear is being criticized for being an ignorant act of cultural appropriation.

A&E to air tribute honoring ‘Dog the Bounty Hunter’ star Beth Chapman - Fox News

A&E will be paying tribute to the late Beth Chapman early next week.

On Thursday, a network representative told Fox News that A&E will air tributes to Chapman Monday morning after each episode during the channel's regular "Dog the Bounty Hunter" 4-hour programming block.

As previously reported, Beth, the wife of series star Duane "Dog" Chapman, died on Wednesday at the age of 51 after a nearly two-year battle with stage 2 throat cancer.

'DOG THE BOUNTY HUNTER' STAR BETH CHAPMAN’S DEATH SPARKS REACTIONS FROM FANS: 'GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN'

Duane, 66, announced her passing on Twitter, writing, "It’s 5:32 in Hawaii, this is the time she would wake up to go hike Koko Head mountain. Only today, she hiked the stairway to heaven. We all love you, Beth. See you on the other side."

Beth and Duane first rose to prominence on A&E when their series first premiered in 2004. The reality program ran for eight seasons on the network before the couple starred in a spin-off series for CMT titled, "Dog and Beth: On the Hunt."

Beth's health issues were also documented on A&E in the two-hour special, "Dog and Beth: Fight of Their Lives," which aired in 2017.

Earlier on Thursday, TMZ reported that Beth was also heavily involved in the upcoming WGN America reality series "Dog's Most Wanted" and was filming the series until almost her last day. It’s reportedly up to Dog what will happen with the footage and the future of the show from here on out.

Fox News' Mariah Haas contributed to this report.

Netflix's 'One Day at a Time' gets saved from cancellation by Pop TV - Engadget

Sony Pictures Television

Often when we hear about canceled shows getting a second life in the rapidly expanding streaming ecosystem, you'd expect it's the likes of Netflix or Amazon extending the lifespan of an axed network series. Not so this time around. In a rare development, cable network Pop TV has renewed One Day at a Time, several months after Netflix cancelled the beloved sitcom.

The fourth season of the rebooted series will run on Pop for 13 episodes next year, with the whole core cast returning. The first three seasons will stay on Netflix for the foreseeable future, though Pop will be able to air them too, as Vulture reported. As part of the deal, Pop's sibling network CBS will air repeats of the fourth season.

Previous indications suggested Netflix's rival streaming platform, CBS All Access, tried to pick up One Day At A Time, but it seems Netflix blocked that notion. Sony Pictures Television, which produces the show, was prohibited from taking it to another streaming service for several years under its Netflix deal, though there was no such clause preventing it from selling the series to a broadcast network. Pop, meanwhile, was looking to bolster its lineup with one of its most successful shows, Schitt's Creek, wrapping up after its next season.

Madonna's 'God Control' video slammed by Pulse Nightclub survivor: 'It's bringing up that pain' - Fox News

A survivor of the Pulse Nightclub shooting says Madonna’s new video tackling gun violence was deeply upsetting and triggering to her, arguing the singer's approach to the conversation was all wrong.

On Wednesday, the 60-year-old singer released a video for “God Control,” a play on “gun control.” The eight-minute clip begins with a graphic content warning to viewers and depicts a gunman storming a night club and opening fire on the crowd, killing many people.

Following the release of the video, Madonna took to Twitter to urge fans to act in advocacy of gun control.

"This is your wake up call," the 60-year-old singer wrote in part. "Gun violence disproportionately affects children, teenagers and the marginalized in our communities. Honor the victims and demand GUN CONTROL. NOW. Volunteer, stand up, donate, reach out."

MADONNA FELT ‘RAPED’ BY NEW YORK TIMES PROFILE SHE CONSIDERS SEXIST

However, speaking to TMZ, Pulse Nightclub survivor, Patience Carter, explained that the video didn’t do all it could to avoid bringing victims of gun violence back to that horrible place, calling the depiction “grossly accurate.”

“As a survivor of gun violence, it w3as really hard to watch,“ she said in a video.

“I understood what she was trying to do with bringing awareness to the topic of gun control, but I definitely felt that wasn’t the right way to go about doing it,” she explained. “Because, for someone like me who actually saw those images, who actually lived those images, to see them again dramatized for views, dramatized for YouTube, I feel like it was really insensitive.”

MADONNA SAYS HARVEY WEINSTEIN CROSSED 'LINES AND BOUNDARIES' WITH HER, SAYS DONALD TRUMP IS 'INSECURE'

She continued: “You could not think about the person that was actually in those incidents, that actually lost someone, that actually had to experience that bloodshed firsthand. Think about how they would feel reliving, because that’s what it is, reliving this all over again. And it’s bringing up that pain, all that healing, all that growth can crumble with one video.”

Madonna previously told People that her reasoning behind the controversial video was simply to draw attention to what she considers the biggest problem facing the United States at the moment.

“I made this video because I want to draw attention to a crisis that needs to be addressed. To me, this is the biggest problem in America right now,” she said. “I cannot take it anymore.”
