'Today' meteorologist Dylan Dreyer reveals pregnancy after miscarriage - Page Six

There’s sunshine on the horizon for NBC’s Dylan Dreyer.

The “Today” show meteorologist announced Wednesday she’s expecting her second child after revealing earlier this year that she had suffered a miscarriage.

“I’m pregnant,” Dreyer said on “Today,” revealing that she’s expecting a baby boy in January.

Dreyer, 37, who welcomed son Calvin with husband Brian Fichera in 2016, opened up about her miscarriage in April, shortly after fellow “Today” show co-host Jenna Bush Hager announced her third pregnancy, and co-anchor Hoda Kotb revealed she had adopted a second baby girl.

“I’m devastated, and I have to go to work on the ‘Today’ show and be happy and smiling and pretend like nothing’s wrong,” she recalled. “We push [emotions] down and get through the show, I go to the doctor and they do an ultrasound. The baby’s still in there. It’s fluke bleeding.”

Dreyer has maintained a positive outlook, hoping her story resonates with others.

“I just want people to know that, yeah, I’m kind of going through it with you,” she said.

Dreyer and Fichera married in 2012.

Is Meghan Markle's Father Talking Less or Just Less Relevant? - Showbiz Cheat Sheet

Meghan Markle’s father, Thomas Markle, Sr., made a series of headlines for all the wrong reasons as his daughter was set to marry Prince Harry. While it seemed that Markle Sr. couldn’t keep his mouth shut and was the center of several controversies for a while, things have gone much quieter lately

Is Markle Sr. actually keeping quiet on purpose, or is he simply getting less attention because he is less relevant now? Let’s take a closer look and find out.

Thomas Markle had a good relationship with his daughter

Markle Sr. and the former Suits actress had a good relationship when she was younger. Even though Markle Sr. and the duchess’s mother split up when their daughter was very young, he remained active in his daughter’s life.

In fact, when Markle Sr. won $750,000 in the California lottery in 1990, he used some of his winnings to send his daughter to a private, all-girls school. Giving her an advantage in life seemed to be incredibly important to him, and before marrying into the royal family, the now-duchess frequently wrote on her blog about spending time with her father as a child. Markle Sr. worked as a lighting director on television shows and often brought his daughter along with him to work on sets: She credits her father with instilling in her a strong work ethic.

When did things sour between Meghan Markle and Thomas Markle, Sr.?

While this once-solid relationship seemed intact as Markle planned her royal wedding and intended to include her father, things took a turn for the worst when it was revealed that Markle Sr. had intentionally posed for some tabloid photographs and then sold them to media outlets. To make matters even worse, he went on Good Morning Britain in an attempt to apologize for the behavior but instead revealed Prince Harry’s feelings about both President Trump and the Brexit situation.

While the statements were relatively harmless on their own, the royal family is forbidden from weighing in on political matters, and what may have seemed like an innocent statement to Markle Sr. was actually quite a big deal. Amid these publicity-fueled antics, Markle Sr. was not in attendance at the royal wedding, though he claims his ill health was primarily to blame. He had suffered two heart attacks and could not attend.

The comments were sparked by self-defense

Markle Sr.’s comments certainly were not helping his daughter and her adjustment to her new role as a member of the royal family, but his attempts to prove himself in the media were sparked by self-defense. Markle Sr. reportedly hated the way that he was portrayed in the Lifetime biopic about his daughter, and he wanted to set the record straight and provide a better public image of himself.

The Duchess of Sussex eventually wrote her father a letter begging him to stop talking to the media, and he seems that he is mostly heeding that advice. Perhaps he learned that trying to create a better image of himself was actually making things worse, or perhaps he simply wanted to get back on his daughter’s good side

Thomas Markle has stayed out of the headlines

For the most part, Markle Sr. has stayed out of recent headlines. He did; however, make some comments following pictures of the christening of Prince Harry and Markle’s son: Archie. While Markle’s mother, Doria Ragland, was present for the pictures, Markle Sr. was conspicuously absent.

When asked if he wanted to attend, he responded:

“I was an altar boy at age 12, a confirmed member of the Queen’s church at age 14, and Archie is my new grandson, so of course I would have enjoyed being there for the blessing, wishing Archie and his parents health and happiness.”

While Markle Sr. does seem to be still held at arm’s length when it comes to his famous daughter’s personal life, it also seems like he is being more careful with the words he chooses to share with the press. Perhaps, in time, the two will be able to mend the gap in their relationship and start off on a new path with fewer media outbursts.

Bachelorette star sends contestant home after sex before marriage spat, feud spills into Twitter - Fox News

Sparks flew Monday night on the Fantasy Suites week episode of "The Bachelorette" between star Hannah Brown and Luke Parker.

It even spilled over into Twitter and Instagram.

But it was the sex talk that got the bachelor sent home. The born-again Christian drew ire earlier in the season when he told her he was saving sex for marriage and wanted her to do the same.

"The closest thing to love at first sight was probably with you," Brown admitted during Parker's final episode, and he thought the two were on the same page when it came to faith and family. But the 24-year-old, called "Luke P" on the show, quickly found out he had broken her heart with each episode leading up to the dramatic moment that left Brown flipping him off.

"Guess what? Sex might be a sin out of marriage, pride is a sin, too, and I feel like this is like a pride thing," Brown said. "I feel like I've finally gotten clarity on you and I do not want you to be my husband."

When Parker asked if he could have a minute, Brown told him she had sex in a windmill with contestant Peter Weber, not once, but twice: "I have had sex and, like, Jesus still loves me."

The Alabama native asked if he could pray for the Bachelorette star before he left. But she refused.

Brown told Entertainment Tonight it was her "powerplay moment" of the season.

But the feud didn't end there. The two got in a Twitter war over sin and a Christian response to it.

"The difference in how we view sin is seen in the response," Parker wrote. "I'm weeping at mine and you're laughing at yours. All sin stings. My heart hurts for both of us."

But Brown clapped back: "time and time again Jesus loved and ate with ‘sinners' who laughed. And time and time again he rebuked ‘saints' that judged. Where do you fall Luke? #TheBachelorette."

He shot back: "There is a difference between eating with sinners who laugh and sinners who laugh at their sin. Sin is the very thing that put Jesus on the cross and that's not a laughing matter."

Brown fired back, referencing an exchange Parker had with a contestant, Garrett Powell, who got kicked off: "I have never said that I find my sin funny. I'm not going to [be] lectured on appropriate emotional responses by a guy who threw deli meat in a guy's lap."

Then Parker went back to the windmill sexcapade.

“Your tweets about the windmill and the wood were enough, it’s not about the action it’s about the response. If you want to talk about it, you know how to get ahold of me,” Parker said, adding on Instagram that never meant to "judge or condemn Hannah."

"For me, it was never about getting a rose, it was always about finding a wife who would choose me everyday just as I would choose her everyday," Parker said, admitting "I made mistakes and no I'm not perfect (crazy right)...I did not represent Christ the way I thought I was prepared to and that has broken me."

He concluded: "My desire is to put the Father first above all things and share the truth that he has given to us all. Thank you everyone for the prayers always remember speak truth and rid yourself of all hate, let compassion drive your words. Stay tuned. #faithfuloverfamous."

As for Brown, her choices are down to three: Tyler Camron, Jed Wyatt, or Peter Weber.

Why Netflix cut '13 Reasons Why' suicide scene after years of controversy - New York Post

It’s took two years and millions of concerned parents to convince streaming giant Netflix to censor “13 Reasons Why,” a series about teenage suicide.

“We’ve heard from many young people that 13 Reasons Why encouraged them to start conversations about difficult issues like depression and suicide and get help — often for the first time,” says Netflix in a statement this week. “As we prepare to launch season three later this summer, we’ve been mindful about the ongoing debate around the show. So on the advice of medical experts, including Dr. Christine Moutier, chief medical officer at the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, we’ve decided with creator Brian Yorkey and the producers to edit the scene in which Hannah takes her own life from season one.”

The uncut, almost 3-minute-long scene originally aired during the finale of the 13-episode series. In it, Hannah (Katherine Langford) is shown listless in her bathtub, crying and taking a razor blade to her wrist. Focusing on her face, the audience sees Hannah shrieking in pain and gasping for air before she’s shown slumping into the blood-red water. Finally, her mother (Kate Walsh) discovers her daughter’s lifeless body.

The beginning of the final episode warns viewers that it “may not be suitable for younger audiences” and includes “graphic depictions of violence and suicide.” The first season also featured a 30-minute PSA called “Beyond the Reasons” featuring the show’s actors and producers — including producer Selena Gomez — along with doctors and advocates discussing how to deal with suicidal thoughts.

Following the first season’s controversial run, many psychologists and suicide advocacy groups sounded the alarm over the series’ triggering content. Parents slammed the show for “romanticizing” suicide, some even grieving their own children — citing the show as inspiration for their suicides. Earlier this year, researchers released a report pointing to a rise in teen suicide following the show’s debut.

“We wanted to confront the fact that suicide is messy, ugly, and it’s incredibly painful. There’s nothing peaceful or beautiful about it at all. It’s horrific to endure and it’s horrific for the people that a person who commits suicide leaves behind,” Yorkey, the show’s creator and showrunner, told The Hollywood Reporter in 2017. “We wanted to tell that story truthfully. And as difficult as it is to watch, it should be difficult to watch. If we make it easy to watch, then we’re selling goods that we didn’t want to sell.”

The updated scene is far tamer, with Hannah taking a long look at herself in the mirror before cutting to her devastated parents, apparently just after having discovered their daughter’s death. All depictions of the act of suicide have been wiped.

In this week’s statement, Yorkey says they’d hoped the original scene would make it so “ugly [and] painful” that “no one would ever wish to emulate it,” but went on to admit they’d not been successful in their intention.

“As we ready to launch season three, we have heard concerns about the scene from Dr. Christine Moutier at the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention and others, and have agreed with Netflix to re-edit it. No one scene is more important than the life of the show and its message that we must take better care of each other. We believe this edit will help the show do the most good for the most people while mitigating any risk for especially vulnerable young viewers.”

Netflix edits '13 Reasons Why' suicide scene - Engadget

Netflix

If you decide to rewatch the first season of 13 Reasons Why, don't expect to see the controversial three-minute-long scene showing Hanna taking her own life in graphic detail. Netflix and the team behind the show have decided to tone down that part of the episode ahead of the third season's debut and following advice from medical experts. In an announcement posted on Twitter, the team said they're aware of the ongoing debate surrounding the show and have heard concerns about that scene in particular from Dr. Christine Moutier at the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention and other experts.

While it's been two years since the first season of the show became available for streaming, a new season would attract new audiences who'd end up rewatching previous episodes. According to The Hollywood Reporter, that's also one of the reasons behind the team's decision. The publication says that Netflix will keep an eye out for pirated clips featuring the unedited scene and will be sure to issue takedown notices.

Over the past couple of years, a number of research teams conducted studies looking into the show's impact. Just this May, the National Institute of Mental Health released a study that shows a 28.9 percent increase in suicide rate among people ages 10 to 17 in April 2017, a month after the series began streaming. That said, the study couldn't find a causal link between the show and the suicide rate. Even so, the American Association of Suicidology, American Foundation for Suicide Prevention and American School Counselor Association, among other mental health associations, are supporting Netflix's decision.

They told THR in a statement:

"We support the decision to edit the scene in which Hannah takes her own life from 13 Reasons Why. There has been much debate about the series in the medical community. But this positive change will ensure that 13 Reasons Why continues to encourage open conversation about mental health and suicide prevention -- while also mitigating the risk for the most vulnerable teenage viewers."
