‘Terminator: Dark Fate’ Brings Franchise Crashing Down as $100 Million Box Office Bomb - Yahoo Entertainment

Following the disastrous opening of Paramount’s “Gemini Man” in October, the studio got its second major fall release box office bomb this weekend with the dismal opening of “Terminator: Dark Fate.” The new Paramount release had been projected to open in the $40 million ballpark but only grossed $29 million in the U.S. and $102 million oversees, a sign the film’s international box office won’t be enough to save it. Despite solid reviews and the highly-touted returns of James Cameron and Linda Hamilton to the franchise, “Dark Fate” barely opened higher than 2015’s despised “Terminator Genisys” (a $27 million start in the U.S.).

“Dark Fate” cost $185 million to produce. Variety reports the movie’s marketing and distribution budget was in the $80 million and $100 million range, which means the movie would have to gross in the $450 million range in order to turn a profit. For comparison, “Genisys” tapped out at $440 million worldwide in 2015 after opening in the same margin. Box office analysts tell Variety “Dark Fate” is heading to a final worldwide gross between $180 million and $200 million, which would result in a loss of $100 million or more.

The one saving grace behind “Terminator: Dark Fate” bombing at the box office is that it was financed by Paramount, Skydance, and Disney (via 20th Century Fox), so the film’s losses will be split among the studios and not piled solely onto Paramount. Should “Dark Fate” drop quickly at the box office, it could even approach losses at or above $120 million. Box office analysts tell Variety the film might not even make it past $70 million at the U.S. box office.

Between “Gemini Man” and “Dark Fate,” Paramount is having a rough time at the fall box office. “Gemini Man” is expected to lose Paramount at least $60 million. The two films join Warner Bros.’ “The Goldfinch” as the major box office bombs of the fall season.

“Dark Fate” was supposed to be the studio’s major fall tentpole and was heralded by critics as being the best “Terminator” release since Cameron’s first sequel “T2: Judgement Day.” Based on these opening weekend numbers, it appears overall interest in the “Terminator” franchise has waned. Prophets Of Rage Break Up Ahead of Rage Against the Machine Reunion Shows - Vulture

On Friday, Billboard confirmed that Rage Against the Machine will reunite to headline next year’s Coachella Festival. The band’s verified Instagram account has since posted several other spring shows at the end of March in Texas, New Mexico and Arizona, which you can see below, but the long and the short of it is: now that the Machine is back in working order, Prophets of Rage is headed to the recycling bin.

The semi-supergroup, which formed in 2016, was comprised of RATM members Tim Commerford, Brad Wilk and Tom Morello, in addition to Chuck D of Public Enemy and Cypress Hill’s B-Real. Rage Against the Machine frontman Zack de la Rocha has reportedly been working on his solo career since the last time RATM reunited for Coachella in 2007. According to Pitchfork, the band hasn’t performed together since July 2011. Rage Against the Machine’s upcoming Coachella dates are April 10 and April 17, 2020, which is great, since you’ll definitely need something new to scream during the last seven months leading up to the election.

Prophets of Rage Are Done After Rage Against the Machine Reunion - Loudwire

The announcement of the Rage Against the Machine reunion also spelled the end for Prophets of Rage. Vocalists Chuck D. and B-Real have expressed their gratitude for the time the band was active and the support they received from around the world.

Chuck D., also of Public Enemy fame, shared a message on Twitter, expressing that participating in the band was about more than just making music. "It was about doing something greater than self," he wrote, adding, "2020 keeping [Zack de la Rocha’s] spot warm for RATM & powering a statement for 1,000 days was a honorable truth mission in the hours of chaos from the jump… And so the bands rock on…. Let’s go."

Co-vocalist B-Real, who also fronts hip-hop group Cypress Hill, had nothing but positive things to say about his time spent in Prophets of Rage and the good the band tried to do over the last three years. "I want to say thank you to the fans that supported Prophets of Rage for the time we’ve been rocking together," he said on Instagram.

"It’s been an honor to rock stages and people of all ages with these guys. It’s been a great time and great memories in a short time. Rockin along side of Chuck and Tom [Morello] has been amazing to say the least," B-Real continued. "It was fun while it lasted and I hope we left a big impression and that the music has been a source of inspiration for those that needed it. That was the purpose we got together. So I say to y’all stay informed, stay engaged and fight the good fight."

The group began cryptically teasing their arrival in 2016, which was a Presidential election year, and united three members of Rage Against the Machine (Tom Morello, Tim Commerford and Brad Wilk) alongside Chuck D., B-Real and Public Enemy's DJ Lord. Their sets included songs from each member's iconic bands and new material.

Together, they released The Party's Over EP in 2016, following it up with a self-titled full length the next year. Three more singles, "Heart Afire," "Made With Hate" and "Pop Goes the Weapon" came afterward, though no second album fully materialized.

It is not known if Rage Against the Machine intend on releasing new music to coincide with their return in 2020, which is another Presidential election year.
