People’s Choice Awards: The 5 most noteworthy celebrity quotes, from Kevin Hart to Jennifer Aniston - The Washington Post

Sunday night’s show was no exception, though a number of celebrities had surprisingly funny and/or poignant speeches. Here were some of the most noteworthy quotes from the two-hour telecast. (The list of winners and nominees is below.)

1) Kevin Hart

Hart made his first big public appearance since he was seriously injured in a car accident in September, as he accepted the comedy act award. The actor walked out from backstage to a standing ovation from the audience.

“First and foremost, thank God, because I definitely don’t have to be here. Being that I am, it makes me appreciate life even more, it makes me appreciate the things that really matter,” said Hart, who also thanked his wife and kids. He turned his attention to the fans: “You have no idea the effect you have on us as entertainers. Your energy, your support, it means the world. And I truly want to thank you guys for being there for me and my difficult time.”

2) Pink

World Cup champion Alex Morgan introduced Pink, who won the 2019 People’s Champion honor, and explained that the singer empowers women, champions marginalized voices and is involved in philanthropic causes. “Talk about mom goals!” Morgan said. On cue, the camera cut to Pink’s 8-year-old daughter. . .who was too busy eating a snack to really care about mom’s big award, which Pink found hilarious.

Anyway, Pink’s speech started off funny (“I looked up ‘People’s Champion’ and Rocky Balboa came up. Which I thought was fitting, because I’m from around Philadelphia and I like to wear sweatpants and I like to fight people.”) and turned serious as she talked about the current divisive culture and how “kindness today is an act of rebellion.”

“There are people that don’t have what you have, help them get it,” she said. "There is a planet that needs help. It feels good to help, it feels powerful to help. Stop fighting each other and help each other.”

3) Cole Sprouse

In one of those classic People’s Choice Award moments, Sprouse — best known for CW’s “Riverdale” — snagged the drama movie star trophy for “Five Feet Apart," in which he plays a rebellious teen with cystic fibrosis. Sprouse won over the likes of Brad Pitt, Leonardo DiCaprio, Samuel L. Jackson, Lupita Nyong’o and more. And he saw the humor.

“To some of the other newcomers in this category, specifically DiCaprio and Pitt — just keep your heads up, you know, don’t let this dishearten you,” Sprouse deadpanned as the crowd cheered. “You guys are gonna be here one day. The three of us, we’ve had this competition for a long time. But apparently this is my year.”

4) Zendaya

Quite a few adults were horrified by the graphic scenes of sex and drug use in HBO’s drama “Euphoria,” about a group of suburban California high school students. But then, many viewers also connected to the series, which The Post’s Sonia Rao described as “a brutally honest answer to what growing up Gen Z might be like.” When Zendaya won the drama TV star prize for her role of Rue, a drug addict who returns to school after rehab, she addressed the fans.

" ‘Euphoria’ and Rue, I think, is one of the most beautiful things that’s ever happened for me,” Zendaya said. “Thank you to all of you for receiving it with open hearts. And to anyone who has felt seen by our show, on behalf of the cast and crew and everyone, that’s all we really ever wanted. So thank you for allowing us to do that.”

5) Jennifer Aniston

“If I have any claim to this word ‘icon,’ it’s only because I was able to be on an iconic show with an iconic cast and an iconic haircut,” she said. “ ‘Friends’ was truly the gift of a lifetime, and I would not be standing up here without that amazing show, without those amazing five other actors, and with an audience who stuck with us for a decade. Through streaming services now, and syndication ... you believed in us, you really did. And you believed in those very impossibly large apartments.”

She also, of course, masterfully worked in a plug for her new series: “It feels so good also that I get to be back on television where it all really started. And I’m so excited! I’m with another incredible ensemble cast on ‘The Morning Show.’ So thank you for tuning in to that.”

Camp Flog Gnaw: Drake cuts set short after crowds boo - BBC News

Tyler, the Creator's Camp Flog Gnaw festival was billed to have a surprise performer.

Fans online speculated that the guest would be Frank Ocean, but on Sunday evening Drake took to the stage.

In awkward footage from the gig, Drake is seen telling the crowd: "If you want me to keep going, I'll keep going."

When some fans booed and yelled "no", the Canadian rapper walked off stage, saying: "It's been love".

"I love y'all. I go by the name of Drake, thank you for having me."

The gig hadn't been a complete disaster, however. Video footage of Drake's entrance showed the crowd screaming and singing along to his 2013 single Started From The Bottom.

The star was also cheered for dedicating his set to Tyler, The Creator, who has been running the Camp Flog Gnaw annually since 2012.

"I'm doing this for my brother Tyler, who started this [event] from nothing. That's not easy. Tonight, I felt like I had to touch this stage because I'm proud of my brothers, I'm proud of you."

It's not clear why the star was booed, but a few members of the crowd can be heard chanting "we want Frank", presumably referring to Frank Ocean who they hoped would perform.

The videos, recorded on a fan's Instagram live stream, have since been viewed thousands of times, and artists have tweeted in support of Drake.

"Drake is one person having to give life and energy to a crowd of ungrateful people," wrote US singer Abra on Twitter. "To try and pull off a hype/fun show in the face of a sea of humans booing at you... I can't even imagine what that would do to my spirit."

"Just watched the Drake video," added photographer and radio host Michelle Grace Hunder. "That is brutal. Made me feel sick."

"Drake handled that [situation] so raw. Respect." wrote R&B star Kehlani on Twitter, although her post has since been deleted, and replaced with one calling Drake the GOAT (greatest of all time).

What Kate Middleton Really Thinks About Prince William's Feud with Prince Harry - Showbiz Cheat Sheet

Unless you just haven’t been paying attention to any royal news in recent months, you are well aware of the rumors of a rift between Prince William and his younger brother, Prince Harry. For months now, we have wondered what is really going on, as there have been numerous versions as to what may have or may have not happened.

We know that the brothers have always been pretty close. After all, growing up in the spotlight with the entire world watching certainly isn’t easy, and they were always there to support each other. Although life most definitely has its ups and downs, no one wants to see the royal brothers drift apart.

Recently, in a documentary that was aired regarding Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s recent tour of Africa, PrinceHarry surprised everyone by actually addressing the ongoing feud. We can only imagine that it can’t be easy for the other family members to see the strong bond that Prince William and Prince Harry once had coming apart. So, what does Kate Middleton really think about Prince William’s feud with Harry?

What is happening between Prince William and Prince Harry?

Prince William and Prince Harry have been living in the royal spotlight since the day that they were born. They have always been close, and after the unexpected death of their beloved mother, Princess Diana, they likely became even closer and they supported each other through the most difficult time.

Now that they are both married with children of their own, we would think that they would be closer than ever. So, what happened? Well, according to Nicki Swift, things may have begun before Duchess Meghan and Prince Harry were even married, when Prince William expressed concern that the relationship was moving too fast.

No one in the royal family really had a chance to get to know Markle before the couple became engaged, and Prince William apparently spoke to his brother about the situation. Prince Harry became extremely offended, and there has been tension ever since.

So many rumors swirling about the royal feud

Typically, what goes on behind palace doors stays behind palace doors, which is why we can only speculate as to what exactly is going on. For a long time, we knew that there was some sort of a feud happening, but it was actually rumored to be between Duchesses Meghan and Duchess Kate.

According to Glamour, it all started when Duchess Meghan was planning her wedding, and Duchess Kate left a dress fitting in tears. Although Kensington Palace did their best to shut down rumors, it seemed that there were always reports of tension between the Duchess of Sussex and the Duchess of Cambridge.

Things got so bad at one point that there was even speculation that the reason Duchess Meghan and Prince Harry were relocating to Windsor was that the sisters-in-law couldn’t stand to live so close to each other. It wasn’t until we saw them interacting and acting as if nothing was wrong during an event at Westminster Abbey that the rumors were finally put to rest, and we learned that the real rift was between Prince Harry and Prince William.

What Kate Middleton really things about Prince William’s feud with Prince Harry

One of the most concerning aspects of the royal feud between the brothers is how it must be making their wives feel. So, what does Middleton think?

According to Us Weekly, the Duchess of Cambridge truly hates seeing all of the drama and hopes that her husband and brother-in-law can patch things up and move on. Although Prince Harry said that he and Prince William “will always be brothers,” and even expressed his love for the future king, it is devastating to know that things aren’t the way they once were.

Royal snub: Why was Meghan Markle standing on her own on Remembrance Day? - Express

While some speculated it was a sign of a deepening rift within the family, the reason is actually just practical.

The balconies of the Foreign & Commonwealth Office are small, and only three people at a time are advised to stand on them for events such as this for safety reasons.

The royals will then be split up in order of precedence - so the Queen stood with the two future Queen consorts, and Meghan stood with the others.

However, despite Sunday’s royal showing not having much deeper significance, the rumours of a rift in the family have taken root, and Saturday’s outing did nothing to quell them.

Meghan Markle’s pal reveals how Duchess took four-month-old Archie on one-day trip to NYC - Express

has revealed that Meghan Markle secretly brought baby Archie with her to New York in an interview where the 23-time major tennis champion also declared the Duchess of Sussex is ”the strongest person I know." Ms Williams also said that the Duchess of Sussex is always free for a chat. The Duchess of Sussex flew across the Atlantic for the final of the tournament in September, when Archie was four-months-old.

It was widely assumed that left Archie with Prince Harry when she flew out to the US Open.

Mrs Williams said Meghan flew back to the UK straight after watching Ms Williams lose to Bianca Andreescu in the final.

She told Access Hollywood: "She flew all the way with a newborn to see me play in New York and flew all the way back that night, and I probably couldn't have done that.

"I think it's really cool to have a group of friends who are doing amazing things and face the same pressures you face with being in the public eye."

Mrs Williams praised Meghan over how she has dealt with the intense scrutiny that comes with being a member of the royal family.

Meghan hugged the player's husband, Reddit founder Alexis Ohanian, as they arrived to watch Mrs Williams take on 19-year-old Canadian Bianca Andreescu in the women's singles at Flushing Meadows.

The victory for Serena would have been her first Grand Slam since giving birth to daughter Alexis in September 2017.

The Duchess looked relaxed in a denim dress with a grey jacket over her shoulders and sunglasses hooked into her neckline when she attended the event, but Archie was not present at the courts.

The Duchess, who reportedly flew by commercial plane for her latest trip to New York, also watched on from the royal box at Wimbledon when Serena played in the final there this year.

Serena lost in straight sets at Wimbledon.

The pair became friends after meeting at an American football Super Bowl party in 2010.

Meghan was also seen greeting Serena’s mother Oracene Price during the match.

Serena’s sister, the former tennis star Venus Williams, was also spotted one row behind Meghan chatting to Ms Wintour.

Other celebrities at the event included legendary director Spike Lee, model Gigi Hadid and model-turned-actress Cara Delevingne.

However, not everyone was happy to see the Duchess at the US open final.

While Ms Williams was thrilled to have her best friend at the match, her coach was reportedly “worried” at the royal’s presence.

Mr Mouratoglou feared that the Duchess’s presence could be unlucky for Ms Williams’ performance.

Astroworld Festival hits a high note - Chron

Travis Scott knows how to put on a festival.

His second annual Astroworld Festival is a blueprint others should follow. Perfect time of year. A diverse, fresh lineup. A smart blend of local nostalgia and current culture.

THE FULL STORY: See more photos, video and get a recap of the Astroworld Festival

And he keeps people guessing. The lineup, a diverse mix of genres, dropped just before noon Friday and included shock rocker Marilyn Manson, Pharrell Williams and the Houston All Stars rap collective. That meant it was at the top of social media trends as a lead up to Saturday.

It was great to see two women, local breakout Megan Thee Stallion and Spanish singer RosalĂa, breaking up the testosterone — even if they were both relegated to the smaller second stage. Last year’s inaugural fest was all men.

Tickets sold out in September, but more were released Friday. More than 50,000 people were expected to attend Saturday at NRG Park, across the street from the old Astroworld location.

Scott has frequently mentioned the iconic amusement park that entertained locals with roller coasters, a water park and an outdoor concert venue. He's named the festival, an album and tour after it and has used old Astroworld footage as a promotional tool.

Astroworld opened on June 1, 1968 and closed on Oct. 30, 2005. Buoyed by Scott's love for the park, Mayor Sylvester Turner has vowed to bring it back. He tweeted last month to expect an announcement before the end of the year.

Until then, Scott's extravaganza is a solid substitute. Aside from music, the daylong event featured carnival rides and games. Some opted for the funhouse, complete with warped mirrors and mazes. Others congregated at an old-school arcade that boasted skee ball, air hockey and a prize crane.

A large silver skull that resembled Scott welcomed fans once they entered the gates. It replaced last year’s gold Scott head. Lines for food and rides grew quickly. Several young men walked around with multiple bags of Astroworld merch, including hoodies and sweat pants.

This year’s edition was much more crowded much earlier. Some fans even lined up Friday night to be the first inside. The excited crowds initially overwhelmed staff, breaking through the gates and rushing toward the entrance. Three people suffered leg injuries during the stampede and were transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital, according to the Houston Fire Department.

The Houston Police tweeted Saturday that they were “working together to support Houston's biggest music festival” and were “collaborating closely with the festival to ensure the public safety of everyone attending the event.”

Fans raced between stages throughout the day to catch Migos, Pharrell Williams, Young Thug and Sheck Wes, who closed his expletive-filled set by telling fans to “keep following your dreams.” Each act was given 30 minutes with the exception of Scott, whose closing set was 75 minutes.

Even before the “Htown Hottie” took the stage, the crowd warmed up with chants of “Megan! Megan!” It’s no surprise. Megan Thee Stallion is one of the biggest new stars of the year, and her “hot girl summer” catchphrase became a national obsession. She was given a slightly later time slot when Gucci Mane was mysteriously dropped from the lineup.

Megan strutted onstage in a leopard bodysuit and a braid past her knees. She packed her set with a lot, from dancers to crowd participation. She brought several people onstage to join in the twerk-fest.

She was here last month for a headlining show at Revention Music Center, but this performance felt rawer and more aggressive. She has a bracing energy when she raps, leading the crowd through several songs, including “Realer,” “Simon Says” and “Hot Girl Summer.” Next year,

The Stallion deserves a nighttime slot on the main stage.

The Houston All Stars had a big mid-afternoon crowd throwing their H’s up and included Slim Thug, Paul Wall, Lil Flip, Trae Tha Truth and Bun B. Slim Thug thanked “the lil homie Travis Scott” for putting on the festival.

Maxo Kream, a newer name among the local legends, brought a rush of energy and prompted the crowd to form a mosh pit. He was dressed in Oilers blue and red to further push the Htown vibe.
