Gabrielle Union’s ‘America’s Got Talent’ Firing Sparks SAG-AFTRA Probe Over What Went Down At NBC - Deadline

Stumbling from bad to worse, NBC now have a potential labor landmine under their feet with Gabrielle Union’s forced march exit from America’s Got Talent.

Just hours after the Comcast-owned network finally put out a statement that seemed to recognize the gravity of the situation and the allegations of racial and other discriminatory practices at work on the Simon Cowell created competition series, SAG-AFTRA has turned a new spotlight on the matter.

SAG AFTRA

“We take issues of workplace health and safety very seriously,” the Gabrielle Carteris-led union said in a statement Sunday (read the full statement below) on the L.A. Finest’s star and AGT, which announced on November 22 Union was leaving after just one season. “While we have taken steps to investigate this matter, we have nothing to report now,” SAG-AFTRA’s statement added of the Union probe.

We understand the investigation is in an early stage, but a well informed source says that the union recognizes what a high profile and probably high wire act this is. Representing over 160,000 actors and other performers globally, SAG-AFTRA intends to be extremely thorough and timely simultaneously because of the claims being made and the manner in which they were handled by the show, its producers and subsequently the network.

Tonight, NBC said that they had “nothing further” to say “beyond the statement we sent this morning” when contacted by Deadline on SAG-AFTRA’s confirmation of a probe into what really went down at AGT this past season. As support for the fired Union became deeper and louder the past week, NBC and producers Fremantle and Cowell’s Syco said earlier today that they were “working with Ms. Union through her representatives to hear more about her concerns, following which we will take whatever next steps may be appropriate.”

Now, in a town already experiencing labor tensions, that work may be proving a bit more urgent.

HERE IS SAG-AFTRA’S FULL STATEMENT ON THEIR INVESTIGATION FOR GABRIELLE UNION

We take issues of workplace health and safety very seriously. We immediately reached out to Ms. Union’s representatives when these reports came to light. It is our practice to work closely with members who reach out to us and their representatives in instances like this, as that usually affords the best protection and best resolution for the affected member.

For certain matters, our investigation and enforcement needs to happen independently and we are prepared to handle this issue accordingly, as warranted.

Our enforcement action is usually handled confidentially to protect the member involved, and we typically do not publicize these matters unless the member requests that we do so.

While we have taken steps to investigate this matter, we have nothing to report now.

Shelley Morrison, ‘Will & Grace’ Actress, Dies at 83 - The New York Times

Shelley Morrison, whose 64-year acting career included playing the memorable maid Rosario on NBC’s “Will & Grace” from 1999 to 2006, died in Los Angeles on Sunday. She was 83.

Ms. Morrison died of heart failure, according to a statement from her husband, Walter Dominguez.

“Shelley’s greatest pride as an actress was in playing the indomitable Rosario in a comedy series that furthered the cause of social equity and fairness for L.G.B.T.Q. people,” Mr. Dominguez said in a statement. “She also took pride in portraying a strong, loving yet feisty Latina character.”

He added: “She believed that the best way to change hearts and minds was through comedy.”

The daughter of Spanish immigrants, Ms. Morrison was born and raised in the Bronx, where a street sign carries her name at 159th Street and Grand Concourse Boulevard as part of the Bronx Walk of Fame. After moving to Los Angeles, she attended Los Angeles City College and began her stage career, becoming one of the city’s first female stage producers.

She would later move into film and television, including playing Sister Sixto on “The Flying Nun” in the late 1960s. She would appear in dozens of other television shows, including “Murder She Wrote,” “L.A. Law,” “Home Improvement” and “Columbo.”

But she was best known for her work on “Will & Grace,” where she played a maid to Karen, played by Megan Mullally. As one of the few characters willing to stand up to her socialite boss, Rosario became a fan favorite.

“She reminds me a lot of my own mother, who loved animals and children, but she would not suffer fools,” Ms. Morrison said of her character in a biography released by her publicist.

She and her husband met in 1973 and together adopted three sons and three daughters through a Native American ceremony. She lived in the same apartment building in Los Angeles for 69 years, promising her parents, who had also moved there, she would always take care of it.

Neil Vigdor contributed reporting.

Box Office: ‘Frozen 2’ Sets Thanksgiving Record, ‘Knives Out’ Scores - Variety

Disney’s “Frozen 2” stuffed the box office competition during Thanksgiving, generating $85.2 million over the weekend and a record-setting $123.7 million over the five-day holiday frame.

The animated adventure soared past the previous Thanksgiving benchmark held by 2013’s “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire” and its $109 million bounty between the Wednesday and Sunday holiday frame. Like, “Frozen 2,” the “Hunger Games” sequel opened a week ahead of Thanksgiving.

After two weekends in theaters, “Frozen 2” is nearing the $300 million mark in North America with ticket sales currently at a massive $2788 million. The fantasy follow-up made $130 million in its inaugural outing, cementing a new high-water mark for Disney Animation.

Overseas, “Frozen 2” brought in another $164 million this weekend for an international tally of $451 million. The film has made $739 million at the global box office in just 12 days and will likely be the sixth Disney movie this year to cross $1 billion by the end of its theatrical run.

Though “Frozen 2” earned a turkey’s share of grosses, two new movies successfully served as counter-programming against Disney’s all-audience tentpole and carved out solid box office receipts.

Propelled by critical raves and audience adoration to match, Lionsgate’s “Knives Out,” a murder mystery directed by Rian Johnson, launched ahead of expectations, securing second place on domestic charts with $27 million over the weekend and $41.7 million between Wednesday and Sunday. Heading into the weekend, the whodunit starring Daniel Craig, Jamie Lee Curtis and Chris Evans was projected to earn $20 million to $25 million in its first five days of release. The movie cost $40 million and looks to be a triumph for original content at multiplexes.

“Rian Johnson created a fresh and original crowd-pleasing film with ‘Knives Out’ and we are thrilled to see it connecting with audiences,” said Brye Adler and Jonathan Golfman, presidents of MRC Films, a co-producer on the movie. “It was an incredible collaboration between MRC, T-Street, and Lionsgate, who did a phenomenal job marketing and distributing the film.”

“Knives Out” is also resonating with international moviegoers. The film debuted overseas with $28.3 million, boosting its global total to $70 million.

Fellow new release, Universal and Makeready’s “Queen and Slim,” also exceeded expectations and is shaping up to be a win in favor of original fare. The romantic drama starring Daniel Kaluuya and Jodie Turner-Smith opened at No. 5, collecting $11.7 million over the weekend and $15.8 million over the five-day holiday period. Directed by Melina Matsoukas and written by Lena Waithe, “Queen and Slim” carries a roughly $20 million price tag. Over 50% of opening weekend crowds were African America, while 24% were Caucasian, 15% were Hispanic and 3% were Asian. More than 60% of ticket buyers were over the age of 25.

“At the heart of ‘Queen and Slim’ is a moving love story that is timely and groundbreaking,” said Jim Orr, Universal’s president of domestic distribution. “We’re really pleased with how ‘Queen and Slim’ opened and that audiences are responding.”

Holdovers including Disney-Fox’s “Ford v Ferrari” and Sony’s “A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood.” Matt Damon and Christian Bale’s sports drama, now in its third outing, earned $13 million over the weekend and $19 million during the five-days, propelling its domestic tally to $81 million. Tom Hanks’ feel-good film about Mister Rogers made $11.8 million over the traditional weekend and $17.2 million over the holidays. After two weeks of release, “A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood” has generated $34 million.

While this Thanksgiving, racking up $263 million combined, didn’t best last year’s $315 million benchmark, the holiday season is already helping offset what has otherwise been a bleak November at the box office. Heading into the long weekend, overall ticket sales were behind over 7%, according to Comscore. Now, box office receipts are down by 5.6%.

Comedian asks fans to sign $1 million NDA before comedy show - AOL

Whatever you do, never tweet at a Pete Davidson comedy show. The “Saturday Night Live” cast member has recently been dolling out non-disclosure agreements before each of his recent comedy shows.

Most recently fans attending Davidson’s standup at the Sydney Goldstein Theater were asked to sign a lengthy contract that forbid them from tweeting or instagramming any opinions about the performance.

One attendee Stacy Young, originally discovered by Consequence of Sound, posted the alleged NDA on her facebook which stated: “the individual shall not give any interviews, offer any opinions or critiques, or otherwise participate by any means or in any form whatsoever (including by not limited to blogs, Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, or any other social networking or other websites whether no existing or hereafter created.”

The fine for breaking said NDA was a whopping one million bucks, “In the event of breach of this agreement, individual shall pay company, upon demand, as liquidated damages, the sum of one million dollars, plus any out of pocket expense.”

Sources confirmed to Variety that Davidson’s NDA would again be handed out on Saturday prior to his show at Chicago’s Vic Theatre.

A spokesperson for the “SNL” star could not be reached for comment.

Cell phone bans are nothing new in world of modern day live performances. In May, Louis C.K. banned the use of phones at his comedy shows while Dave Chappelle and Madonna have also prohibited fans from sharing live materials without written consent.

Chrissy Teigen claps back at a troll who tried to shame her for employing 'chefs and nannies' - Daily Mail

Chrissy Teigen claps back at a troll who tried to shame her for employing 'chefs and nannies'

She often puts her family life in the public eye on social media.

But Chrissy Teigen didn't hold back after a troll tried to shame her for having hired domestic workers.

The 34-year-old model shared a photo on Friday featuring her chef, nanny and assistant, along with her two children, Luna, three, and Miles, one.

The photo featured the group gathered together under a canopy with picturesque hills in the distance.

'Grateful for people that make our dysfunctional house functional ❤️,' she gushed in the caption.

But one commenter was offended by her hiring domestic staff.

'AKA "thankful for my household staff of chefs and nannies,"' they replied.

Chrissy seemed unfazed as she responded: 'Literally just said that but you sure got me.'

The Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue star has been open before about how important having professional help has been to raising her family.

In September, she was asked on Twitter how she worked on her comedy reality show Bring The Funny while still raising two young children.

'@chrissyteigen Can you please talk about working while pregnant, shortly post-pregnancy and away from your babies?' asked writer and radio producer Rebecca Caroll in September.

'I'm watching you on #BringTheFunny and you're so pro and engaged and focused, and I know your babies were/are small and wanting of you.'

The Lip Sync Battle host was open about what it took to have a high-profile career.

'I girl I have HELP and a half. That’s it,' she tweeted. 'There is no way I could have done it without it. I’m so lucky to have it and I don’t know how anyone else does it. I have so much respect for all of you. (also our amazing set provided an amazing daycare room).'

Chrissy shared another photo also featuring Bronwyn Reed and chef Paul Barbosa Jr.

She joined them in wearing a pair of custom-made pajamas adorned with her husband John Legend's Sexiest Man Alive cover from People magazine.

In October, John and Chrissy revealed that she often worries about how much she features her children in her social media posts while speaking with Vanity Fair.

'She’s already thinking about what a hater might say,' he revealed.

'I know a lot of people who make the conscious decision to blur out their kids' faces,' Chrissy added. 'I worry, "What must they think of me?" They must think I’m insane.'

The social media star speculated her own reserved upbringing was the reason she loved to share online.

'I think I’m such an open person now because everyone in my family has always been so hush-hush,' she said. 'I love attention and affection. I want to be direct with everyone.'
