1917 Blows Away Star Wars at the Box Office!

Turns out a Golden Globe win for Best Motion Picture Drama helps a lot, as Universal’s World War I drama 1917 took the box office by storm with an impressive estimated $36.5 million weekend haul! Expanding from 11 theaters to 3434, the Sam Mendes film which features no major stars built its momentum on a campaign around its innovative single-take presentation and the caliber of the filmmaking. This takes 1917‘s domestic gross to $39.2 million and worldwide to $60.4 million, which should increase even more if the momentum leads to an Oscar win as well.

After three weeks at the top of the box office Lucasfilm’s Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker was finally dethroned, dropping to #2 with $15 million for a $478.1 million domestic take and $989.5 million worldwide. Not that those numbers are anything to sneeze at, but at this same point in its domestic run The Force Awakens had taken in $812.7 million and The Last Jedi had tallied $572.6 million.

Sony’s Jumanji: The Next Level fell from #2 to #3 with $14 million, giving it a domestic total of $257.1 million and a worldwide cume of $671.1 million.

The Paramount Pictures comedy Like a Boss debuted at #4 or 5 in 3078 theaters with a flat estimated $10 million. The Miguel Arteta film is headlined by Tiffany Haddish, Rose Byrne and Salma Hayek and received a scathing 21% positive reviews on Rotten Tomatoes.

Warner Bros.’ courtroom drama Just Mercy shot from 4 theaters to 2,375 to take in an estimated $10 million for the #4 or 5 slot depending on actuals. Michael B. Jordan and Jamie Foxx star.

20th Century Fox’s long-delayed Underwater sank with an estimated $7 million debut, which combined with a lackluster 52% critical reaction on Rotten Tomatoes all but guarantees a watery grave for the sci-fi flick. This also marks a second dud in a row for former Twilight superstar Kristen Stewart after Charlie’s Angels went bust in November.

Tina Fey, Amy Poehler to replace Ricky Gervais as Golden Globes hosts - Washington Times

PASADENA, Calif. — Tina Fey and Amy Poehler will share host duties for the Golden Globes ceremony in 2021.

Poehler herself shared the announcement at a TV critics meeting Saturday, just a week after the ceremony aired with Ricky Gervais as host.

“There are no two funnier people anywhere,” said Poehler, who introduced herself with the name of an NBC publicist who was to have opened the network’s daylong presentation about its programming.

A tongue-in-cheek Poehler said the network was glad the pair found time in their busy schedules to take on the Globes. They have hosted three times before.

At last Sunday’s ceremony, Gervais’ snarky jokes in his fifth turn as host received mixed reviews and reactions from the celebrity audience. Poehler and Fey earned a warmer reception for their comedic approach.

Gervais repeatedly said during the ceremony that it was the last time he intended to emcee. A total of 18.3 million viewers tuned in, a small drop over the 18.6 million who watched the 2019 ceremony co-hosed by Sandra Oh and Andy Samberg.

“There’s no denying that Tina and Amy’s comedic chemistry is infectious,” said Lorenzo Soria, president of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, which bestows the TV and movie awards. “We can’t wait to see the dynamic duo return to the Golden Globes stage.”

Poehler joked that she couldn’t wait to present the best film award to the video, “Puppy Dog Bouncing in the Box Like This.”

NBC is keeping her busy: The network announced Saturday it’s renewed the craft show “Making It,” hosted and produced by Poehler and Nick Offerman, former “Parks and Recreation” castmates.

The date for next year’s Golden Globes will be announced later, NBC said.

Prince William says he can't 'put my arm around' brother Harry anymore: 'I'm sad about that' - Fox News

Prince William hopes the Royals can one day reconcile, he said in his first public comments on the Megxit scandal.

“I’ve put my arm around my brother all our lives and I can’t do that anymore…I’m sad about that,” he told the Sunday Times.

MEGHAN MARKLE, PRINCE HARRY'S WAX FIGURES SEPARATED FROM ROYAL FAMILY AT MADAME TUSSAUDS

The Duke of Cambridge admitted his “sadness” about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle‘s decision to “step back” as senior members of the monarchy, according The Sunday Times of London.

William, 37, seemed resigned to trying to buoy the rogue couple as the fallout from their desire to splinter from the family continued.

“All we can do, and all I can do, is try and support them and hope that the time comes when we’re all singing from the same page. I want everyone to play on the team,” he said.

It’s a sharp turn from early reports that the future king and his father, Prince Charles, were “incandescent with rage,” at Harry, who allegedly did not warn his family that the announcement was coming.

William, whose wife Kate Middleton has been noticeably quiet amidst the controversy, has been heavily involved in trying to appease Harry and Markle in the last few days.

He will join his brother, father and grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II,  in person at Sandringham Estate in Norfolk, England Monday to find common ground. Markle plans to call-in from Vancouver, Canada, where she and eight-month-old son Archie are staying.

The Strange Way Kate Middleton and Prince William Wake Up Every Morning - Showbiz Cheat Sheet

The royal family is one that everyone loves to follow. Whether searching for the latest news from the official royal website or reading the most recent blogs online, fans are desperate for an inside look at the lives of the monarchy.

So much so that they work very hard to protect the youngest members so they can have as normal lives as possible. The latest bit of news involves the Cambridge family firstborn, Prince George. Luckily, this news is more fun in nature, which the royal family needs right now, and involves a part of their morning routine

Prince William and Kate Middleton have been together for almost 20 years, including their on and off dating life. They have been married since 2011.

Their firstborn, Prince George, was born in July 2013. Since then, they’ve gone on to have Princess Charlotte (2015) and Prince Louis (2018).

The family of five spends a lot of time together, with Prince William adamant that he’s involved in their lives. From whether or not they should get a family pet to how to celebrate birthdays, the Cambridges are actually relatively normal.

They share snippets of their lives on social media from time to time but are also fully aware of their royal responsibilities. Duchess Kate has even been caught cutely scolding the kids from time to time, like any normal mom.

Fans have seen them having fun on family outings or enjoying a walk to school. The duchess even enjoys taking photographs of her family and shares them with fans from time to time. Although they don’t often get a break from the media, we still don’t know much about their private lives inside the walls of Kensington Palace.

Kate Middleton and Prince William keep things normal

Growing up royal might seem like it would mean having just about anything you could want. And the Cambridge kids do.

From nannies and chefs to other household staffers that handle just about every need, they don’t lack for much. That’s why their morning routine might surprise you.

The duke and duchess take their kids to school every day when they are able, are involved with school activities, enjoy spending time in the kitchen together, and the kids even have some chores they’re responsible for. They spend time in the garden when the weather permits and both the duke and the duchess aim to give their kids ordinary experiences.

Maybe that’s what makes the way they start their day pretty adorable — and it’s all thanks to Prince George.

How Prince George starts his day

Prince George is a massive fan of football and possibly an even bigger fan of a particular song. In 1996, Frank Skinner wrote the hit football anthem, Three Lions. He shared with Hello Magazine how he had a chance to chat with Prince William and learned that Prince George — and, in turn, the rest of the family — wakes up to the song each morning since the World Cup.

It makes sense, mainly because for Prince George’s 6th birthday, his parents let him wear the England football shirt in photos. He’s also been caught playing in the yard with Princess Charlotte and enjoys going to a good football match now and then.

As for what’s in store for the Cambridge family, their 2020 schedule of events came out in early January. They’ve got plenty to keep them busy for the near future.

There have also been rumors that Duchess Kate is pregnant with their fourth child, but these are likely just that. One thing’s for sure; they will probably be waking up to Prince George’s favorite song for a while longer.

Neil Peart, considered one of the greatest rock drummers of all time, dies at 67 - CNBC

Neil Peart, the former drummer for the Canadian rock band Rush, died on January 7 of brain cancer. He was 67 years old.

Peart joined Rush in 1974, and their lineup remained the same until their retirement 41 years later. During that time, they sold 25 million albums in the U.S., according to the Recording Industry Association of America.

These include 1981's "Moving Pictures," which sold 4 million copies; 1976's "2112," which sold 3 million copies; and the 1990 compilation "Chronicles," which sold 2 million copies. The group also has 11 other platinum albums to its credit, as well as 10 gold albums.

The band built its devoted following through relentless touring and was a consistently popular live attraction. Their "Snakes and Arrows" tour earned $18 million on its 2007 leg, and their farewell "R40" tour in 2015 was their most successful ever, with over 30 North American dates that earned approximately $1 million each.

"Their final tour together in 2015 grossed $1,134,603 per show," said Eric Knight of Persistent Management. That year, the group was ranked at number 12 in Pollstar's list of Top 20 Global Concert Tours of 2015.

While some bands with that level of success might have chosen to soldier on with a replacement drummer, that would be difficult in this case, if not impossible. Peart is considered one of the greatest rock drummers of all time. He was inducted into Modern Drummer magazine's Hall of Fame in 1983, and in 2014, he was voted the Greatest Drummer of All Time by the readers of Consequence of Sound.

Additionally, Peart was the group's lyricist, and he covered such topics as science fiction, politics, and the literary works of Ayn Rand. But perhaps the greatest testament to his talents is that every Rush concert featured an extended drum solo. While that would typically be the time when fans of other bands would duck out to the bathroom, his solo spots were so popular that they were included on all of the group's live albums.

According to Eric Knight of Persistent Management, the group has also influenced many famous bands, right up to the present day.

"As far as influential, successful bands that they've influenced, I would say for sure the Foo Fighters, and of course Tool, which just had the number one album in Billboard last year with 'Fear Inoculum,' just to name a few," he said. "There are countless others."

Mara Kuge, president and founder of Superior Music Publishing, agreed that the surviving members of the group are highly unlikely to go on without him. But even though this may be the end of the road for Rush, fans shouldn't expect them to disappear either.

"Their fans are in the right age bracket that they're likely to want a box set or other commemoration," she said. "They could also be a good topic for a biopic. Peart's story has been very interesting, with a lot of sadness. There was a popular documentary made about them, and they were already featured in a Judd Apatow film, so this seems like a natural next step."

Indeed, Peart suffered more than his fair share of tragedy. In 1997, his 19-year-old daughter Selena was killed in a car accident, followed less than a year later by his wife Jacqueline, who died of cancer. Happily, he married photographer Carrie Nuttall in 2000, and the two had a daughter together, Olivia, in 2009.

He retired in 2015 after the conclusion of the band's R40 tour. He had been suffering from chronic tendonitis and shoulder problems that made it physically painful to perform, especially in the case of the demanding musicianship and marathon sets that Rush always gave its fans. But shortly after the tour's conclusion, he said that he wasn't sad about that part of his life ending, and that he was looking forward to being with his family.

"It does not pain me to realize that, like all athletes, there comes a time to… take yourself out of the game," he said.

Metallica’s Lars Ulrich Pays Tribute to Rush Drummer Neil Peart - Rolling Stone

Metallica’s Lars Ulrich paid tribute Neil Peart Friday, soon after it was revealed that the legendary Rush drummer died earlier in the week at the age of 67.

“Thank you Neil,” Ulrich wrote on Instagram. “Thank you for inspiring me and for all your help and advice along the way, especially in the early days when you took the time to talk to a young green Danish drummer about recording, gear and the possibilities that lay ahead…”

Ulrich continued, “Thank you for what you did for drummers all over the world with your passion, your approach, your principles and your unwavering commitment to the instrument!”

As Ulrich revealed in a 2014 Guitar Center interview, Metallica’s manager in their early years, Cliff Burnstein, also signed Rush to Mercury Records a decade earlier, so the band sometimes leaned on Rush for advice. “[Burnstein] said ‘You want to talk about Neil Peart about drums?’… Talking to Neil was like the god of gods,” Ulrich said.

“So I actually managed to get enough guts to dial the phone number that I was given and I called him and it’s like I spoke to Neil Peart for a half an hour about Tama drums, it was pretty amazing.” Soon after, Tama sent Ulrich a drum kit to his specifications; the Metallica drummer continues to use Tama drums to this day.

Peart died Tuesday following a lengthy and unpublicized battle with brain cancer. Metallica also paid tribute to Peart by posting a previously recorded concert video of guitarist Kirk Hammett and bassist Robert Trujillo jamming out Rush’s “Tom Sawyer” onstage:

Queen orders Prince Harry, Meghan Markle to reach Megxit deal 'within 72 hours' - Page Six

The Queen has demanded Prince Harry and Meghan Markle strike a deal with the palace within “72 hours” to iron out the details of their stunning “Megxit,” according to a new report.

Queen Elizabeth, 93, gave the directive days before Prince Harry is set to make his first public appearance Tuesday in the wake of the couple’s shockwave decision to step back from royal life.

Following a day of meetings and phone calls over the dispute, the Queen instructed her aides Friday to “turn a crisis into an opportunity” by drafting a “workable solution” for a scaled-back role for Harry and Meghan.

The monarch hopes future royals who also desire a more modern arrangement can emulate the plan she establishes for Meghan and Harry, the Telegraph reported.

Harry, 35, will remain in the UK until a plan is ironed out, The Sun reported, noting that once he leaves, a return date is not guaranteed. He has yet to meet with his grandmother, older brother Prince William, and father Prince Charles, according to reports.

Markle, meanwhile, fled to Canada — where she left the couple’s infant son Archie with a nanny — within two days of the announcement.

The couple is reportedly also eager to smooth things out “sooner rather than later.”

The beloved Queen was photographed for the first time on Friday driving her Range Rover through the royals’ Sandringham Estate, wearing a dog-printed head scarf while her corgi rode in the back seat.
