Without warning, Eminem drops new album 'Music to be Murdered by' - CNN

Eminem surprised fans Thursday night by tweeting news of the release of his 11th album.
"It's your funeral..." the rapper wrote.
The album's cover art is modeled after an Alfred Hitchcock album of the same name. One of the tracks, called Alfred, is a 30-second clip of the famed filmmaker speaking.
"How do you do? Ladies and gentlemen/My name is Alfred Hitchcock and this is Music To Be Murdered By/It is mood music in a jugular vein/So why don't you relax? Lean back and enjoy yourself/Until the coroner comes," Hitchcock says in the clip.
The album features collaborations with Ed Sheeran, Skylar Grey, Royce Da 5'9", Black Thought, Q-Tip, Denaun, White Gold, Young M.A, KXNG Crooked, Joell Ortiz, Don Toliver, Anderson .Paak and Juice WRLD.
Rapper and singer Juice WRLD died in December after suffering a medical emergency.
Eminem, whose real name is Marshall Mathers, released his last album -- 2018's "Kamikaze" -- in similar fashion. That one had a political element, with multiple references to President Donald Trump.
"Music to be Murdered by" quickly became controversial after its release because of lyrics in the song "Unaccommodating" that reference the bombing of Ariana Grande's Manchester concert.
"But I'm contemplating yelling 'Bombs away' on the game like I'm outside of an Ariana Grande concert waiting," Eminem raps on the song.
A suicide bomber killed 22 people outside the singer's concert in the English city in 2017.
Some users called the lyrics "disgusting."
Others called the #EminemIsOverParty an overreaction.

"In light of concerns raised to the Recording Academy Board of Trustees, including a formal allegation of misconduct by a senior female member of the Recording Academy team, the board has placed Recording Academy President and CEO Deborah Dugan on administrative leave, effective immediately," the academy said in a statement to The Associated Press on Thursday. "The board has also retained two independent third-party investigators to conduct independent investigations of the allegations."

Dugan, the former CEO of Bono's (RED) organization, became the first woman appointed to lead the academy.

Recording Academy Board Chair Harvey Mason Jr., the music producer who has worked with Chris Brown, Jennifer Hudson and more, will serve as interim president and CEO of the academy.

"The board determined this action to be necessary in order to restore the confidence of the Recording Academy's membership, repair Recording Academy employee morale, and allow the Recording Academy to focus on its mission of serving all music creators," the statement continued. Dugan succeeded Neil Portnow, who led the Grammys since 2002. Before joining (RED), the AIDS organization that launched in 2006, Dugan was president of Disney Publishing Worldwide and executive vice president at EMI/Capitol Records. She started her career as an attorney on Wall Street.

Before Dugan, music executive Christine Farnon held the top position at the academy for years, though she never had the title of president and CEO. She held multiple positions at the Grammys throughout her tenure, retiring in 1992 as executive vice president. Michael Greene became the first official president and CEO of the academy in 1988, leading the organization until 2002 when Portnow took over.

This Buckingham Palace Comment Spotlights How Blindsided the Royal Family Was By Megxit - Showbiz Cheat Sheet

Meghan, Duchess of Sussex and Prince Harry are back to dominating the headlines after taking the holidays off to spend time with their young son, Archie Harrison. The royal couple dropped a bombshell in early January on their Instagram account, announcing that they intended to step back as senior members of the royal family and spend their time making their own income and developing a brand-new charitable organization.

In the days since, the royal family has been scrambling to come to a compromise with the couple and royal watchers wait and speculate about what this could mean for the future of the monarchy. There has also been a lot of bizarre rumors that have been circulating, with the palace actually taking the time to debunk one or two of them.

The timing of one statement, in particular, from the palace truly showcases how blindsided the royal family was by Meghan and Prince Harry’s announcement.

What did Meghan Markle and Prince Harry announce regarding their royal roles?

Prince Harry and Meghan have had a difficult year, dealing with the stress of becoming new parents all while undergoing a near-constant volley of attacks from the British media. There’s little doubt that the two finally had enough of the negativity, which likely led, in part, to their decision to step away from the royal family.

Their statement revealed that they want to “work to become financially independent, while continuing to fully support Her Majesty The Queen.” This indicates that they want to still represent the royal family in some capacity while also pursuing their own interests and make their own money.

However, one thing that their statement did not address when exactly all of this would happen. It is very possible that this transition could take months or the better part of a year.

Will Prince Harry and Meghan Markle live in Canada?

Another portion of the royal couple’s statement indicated that they want to divide their time between North America and the United Kingdom. However, royal fans know that the two have a great fondness for Canada. Meghan spent a great deal of time there prior to her marriage to Prince Harry when she was working on her TV series Suits

Many royal watchers have speculated the Duke and Duchess of Sussex actually want to move to Canada, give up their royal titles, and go off the radar completely. An Instagram post to the couple’s account made only days before the announcement seems to add credibility to the rumor, as it reiterates the great love that they have for Canada and how much they enjoyed spending their holiday season there.

What statement did the palace recently release?

Prior to their announcement, The Sun reported — citing a “pal” of the couple — that Meghan and Prince Harry are relocating their office to Canada.

The source said: “It is true that Harry and Meghan will spend a fair amount of time in Canada over the next couple of months and possibly going forward too. Right now they are starting talks with their family about their plans for the future. Those conversations are at a very early stage. There is a very careful and serious process to go through which they are going to respect. But it is clear they are on a different and unique path, and they are very much thinking about what the future looks like for them. That could include being based in Canada or the possibility of walking away from their HRH titles, although hopefully it will not come to that. It’s been a very tough year—they’re newlyweds and they have a young baby—so they’re looking at what their life looks like in the future. Everything is on the table.”

In response to these reports, Buckingham Palace denied to comment to the Daily Mail saying it refused to comment on the “speculation.” This response — specifically, the use of the word “speculation” — suggests the palace saw no truth in these reports. What’s more, this statement was reported shortly before Meghan and Prince Harry made their massive announcement on Instagram. Surely Buckingham Palace would not have wasted their time denying to comment if they knew what the Sussexes were going to announce shortly.

What does Buckingham Palace say now?

The palace clarified further, when, after a January 13th summit, the queen released a statement saying that she is “entirely supportive of Harry and Meghan’s desire to create a new life as a young family.” The statement also revealed that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will be splitting their time between the United Kingdom and Canada as the entire family works to draw up some final plans for the couple’s new role. However, there were no details regarding any possible title changes, or when the public can expect to see Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stepping back from senior royal positions. Currently, the royal family, as well as Markle and Prince Harry, are experiencing a definite “period of transition.”

Deborah Dugan Placed on Administrative Leave as Recording Academy President/CEO a Week Before Grammys - Billboard

Board Chair Harvey Mason Jr. will serve as interim President and CEO

Deborah Dugan, who took over as Recording Academy president/CEO on Aug. 1, has been placed on administrative leave just over a week before the 2020 Grammy Awards due to "serious concerns" brought to the board of trustees' attention.

“In light of concerns raised to the Recording Academy Board of Trustees, including a formal allegation of misconduct by a senior female member of the Recording Academy team, the Board has placed Recording Academy President and CEO Deborah Dugan on administrative leave, effective immediately," a statement provided to Billboard Wednesday night (Jan. 16) reads. "The Board has also retained two independent third-party investigators to conduct independent investigations of the allegations."

"The Board determined this action to be necessary in order to restore the confidence of the Recording Academy’s Membership, repair Recording Academy employee morale, and allow the Recording Academy to focus on its mission of serving all music creators," the statement continues. "Board Chair Harvey Mason Jr. will serve as interim President and CEO pending the conclusion of the investigation."

Dugan could not be immediately reached for comment, although a source says she has hired litigator Bryan Freedman to represent her.

Some sources contacted by Billboard would not address the specific allegation of misconduct, but allege that, despite a thorough and months-long search for a new CEO, Dugan had not been a good fit almost from the start.

“It’s heartbreaking for people who care deeply about the organization that someone they trusted to fill that position would so quickly become so at odds with the organization,” said a source close to the Recording Academy.

Her relationships within the organization deteriorated rapidly. “Once there were some indications that she was not cooperating with the staff and the board, everything unraveled surprisingly quickly and in a very complex way,” the source says. “It wasn’t like a single incident. It was a series of issues. I think it goes way beyond not just being a good fit.”

Another source concurs, adding that “when you go in any job, you educate yourself in the past, as well as where you’re at to know how to move forward and I don’t think any of that was done appropriately by her." Academy insiders met with Dugan a number of times to try to "hit the reset button and get on the same page," a sources says, but to no avail.

Though the statement stresses that Dugan, who relocated from New York to Los Angeles to take the job, is on administrative leave and had not departed, when asked if there was an expectation that Dugan might return following the investigation, one source replied "no."

However, another source says that the staff, many of them loyal to Dugan’s predecessor, Neil Portnow, and the board were so entrenched in their way of thinking that Dugan was met with resistance at every turn and was unable to move forward.

“She was a huge source of discomfort for everyone there because she believed she was coming to be an agent of change, but they don’t really want change at all,” the source says. “They had entrenched ways of doing business and anything she tried to change was met with ‘That’s not the how we do it.’”

"On the one hand, you think this might be good to shake up a place that needs to be shook up, but apparently it wasn't right or she went too far with it too quickly," another source says.

Dugan ruffled feathers within the industry by not courting executives and going straight to talent. "Instead of trying to make inroads [with] heads of labels and publishers, she would go around them to artists and managers," a source alleges. "That political side of the role should be more to do with label heads and publishing heads and not cutting those people out. Those are the relationships that you want to build and people were noticing that she wasn't doing it."

The move continues the tremendous upheaval the Recording Academy has experienced starting nearly two years ago after Portnow told reporters backstage after the 2018 Grammy Awards ceremony, when only one woman won an award during the televised portion of the show, that women artists should “step up.”

His remarks, which he later walked back, ignited a firestorm including calls for his resignation. In May 2018, the Recording Academy announced that after leading the organization for 17 years, he would leave in July 2019 at the end of his contract.

The search for a replacement began with the mission for someone who would increase the Academy’s diversity and inclusivity. Dugan, the Academy’s first female president/CEO, was officially announced in May 2019 as Portnow’s successor.

Up to the end, there was no outside evidence of discord, despite whatever turmoil may have been occuring at the Recording Academy's Santa Monica offices. On Wednesday, an upbeat profile of Dugan, the former chief executive at non-profit AIDS-advocacy group RED, ran in the Los Angeles Times and sources say she was working on the Grammy show as usual. The 62nd annual Grammy Awards take place Jan. 26, in Los Angeles.

While the news will be industry scuttlebutt, a source says it will not affect the Grammy telecast since the news is too inside baseball to concern fans of the show. Additionally, Dugan had decided weeks ago that she would not address the audience during the show, as Portnow always did, so there will be no gap to fill in that regard.

Late Thursday night, Mason sent a letter to all members of the Recording Academy, alerting them of the change and of the investigation, but added, "we are unable to share the details of the concerns to protect employee privacy," and that Recording Academy Industry, Government Affairs & Member Relations Officer Daryl Friedman and VP of membership and industry relations Laura Segura Mueller will share additional information" when available and appropriate.

Wendy Williams Apologizes For Mocking Joaquin Phoenix - E! NEWS

Wendy Williams is under fire for mocking Joaquin Phoenix.

On Tuesday, The Wendy Williams Show host made an insensitive comment about a scar the Joker actor has above his lip during the "Hot Topics" segment of her show. "When he shaves off his mustache, he's got a hairline fracture, he's got one of those — what do you call it? Cleft lip, cleft palate," she told the audience, pulling her lip up to further mock the condition.

While Phoenix has never publicly addressed the origin of his scar, the Golden Globe winner did describe it as "not a surgically fixed cleft" but a "nonsurgical scar he was born with" in a 2019 interview with Vanity Fair.

Shortly after the show, the controversial star received backlash from upset viewers. Among them was Cher, who has been an ally for the cleft palate community. "THESE ARE THE PPL @WendyWilliams IS MAKING FUN OF," she tweeted, replying to a tweet that featured images of the "Believe" singer meeting with cleft palette sufferers.

She continued, "Joaquin Phoenix was a Child,& We Don't Know What He Had To Go Through. HE IS ONE OF THE GREAT ACTORS OF OUR TIME,MAGNETIC,& MORE THAN HANDSOME!! SHE WILL BE JUDGED FOR THIS FOREVER."

Her comments also caught the attention of Canadian football player Adam Bighill, whose baby boy Beau just underwent cleft palate repair surgery, and said her comment "clearly promotes bullying."

Williams then issued an apology. "We're thinking about Beau today as he is in surgery," she wrote on Twitter. "I want to apologize to the cleft community and in Beau's honor, our show is donating to @operationsmile and @AmerCleftPalate and encourage our Wendy Watchers to learn more and help support the cleft community."

But, it's safe to say that Cher wasn't pleased with the daytime host's apology. "THERE IS NO APOLOGY FOR WHAT SHE DID…& LAUGHED ABOUT !!" she tweeted. "I KNOW THESE CHILDREN,& ADULTS.THEY GO THROUGH HELL,THEIR PARENTS GO THROUGH HELL !! Fk Her Apology. SHE WANTS TO KEEP HER JOB !! I CANT CONTAIN MY ANGER !!"

In another tweet, Cher posted a side-by-side picture of Williams mocking those with cleft palates and Phoenix, writing, "DOES AN APOLOGY MAKE UP FOR THIS."

Bighill, however, was quick to forgive Williams. "Thank you @WendyWilliams for your apology, your donation, and for thinking of Beau today for his surgery," he responded. "I forgive you, and I encourage others to as well. I wish you all the best."

Prince Harry makes first public appearance since Megxit - Page Six

Prince Harry was seen in public Thursday for the first time since his stunning announcement that he was quitting the royal family.

The Duke of Sussex was spotted staring intently at his phone in the back of a car as he was driven into Buckingham Palace for his first official royal engagement since Megxit.

The 35-year-old prince has managed to keep a low-profile in the week since the bombshell news, sneaking into a historic royal summit Monday — while wife Meghan Markle has made public appearances at a series of women’s group meetings while staying with baby Archie in Canada.

Royal biographer Angela Levin told Sky News that the world would be seeing “a sad Harry who puts on a good face because of his sense of duty.”

Harry is due to host the draw for the Rugby League World Cup, as proudly confirmed by the Royal Family on its official Twitter account — which notably referred to him as His Royal Highness in another message.

Harry and Meghan’s titles and roles in the family are understood to be part of ongoing debate during the “period of transition” the Queen granted the couple who she says “wish to live a more independent life.”

Harry also appeared in a video Thursday supporting a “Mental Fitness Charter” aimed at rugby players — with some potentially telling quotes that could relate to his own drama.

He called rugby a community that “takes care of its own” and advised players not to just “grin and bear it” and hide their feelings.
