Jennifer Lopez reflects on halftime show with message about what makes America 'truly great' - CNN

On Instagram, the superstar, who co-headlined the halftime show with Shakira, shared a video from moments before she walked on stage. In the caption, she said she wants "the little girls on stage with me and all over the world" to know "how to use their voices and be proud of everything they are."
"We are proud to recognize that all of us together are what makes this beautiful country truly great," she wrote.
An earlier version of Lopez's caption included a reference to "other people" who "try to build walls, keep us out or put us in cages." It was later edited out.
Political and cultural themes ran through the veins of Sunday's halftime show in a way that was unmissable.
The children she referenced were seen both on stage with her and in cage-like structures that viewers understood to be a statement on the ongoing border crisis. Lopez's 11-year-old daughter, Emme Maribel Muñiz, also joined her mother on stage, singing a solo alongside a children's choir.
At one point, Lopez sported a feather coat that featured the Puerto Rican flag on one side and the American flag on the other, a message of unity.
The Super Bowl halftime show was viewed by 103 million people, according to Nielsen Media Research via Fox, which aired the game. That number represents a 4% growth over last year's show, which was headlined by Maroon 5.

See Jennifer Lopez and Her Daughter Get Ready for the Super Bowl Show - E! NEWS

Jennifer Lopez and Shakira did the damn thing at the 2020 Super Bowl Halftime Show.

Both superstars made jaws drop after their epic performances, which included melodies of their biggest hits, glamorous outfit changes, major surprise guests (hello, Bad Bunny and J Balvin) and more.

Not only did the dynamic duo make history as the first two Latinas to lead a halftime performance, but they gave everyone an unforgettable show.

During J.Lo's set, the moment that really captured people's hearts was when her 11-year-old daughter, Emme Maribel Muñiz, joined her on stage. The mother-daughter duo not only performed a rendition of "Let's Get Loud," but Emme had her own solo moment when she belted out lyrics to Bruce Springsteen's "Born In the USA."

Making the song more poignant? Emme performed Bruce's hit as she and other children emerged from cages, which many online pointed out was a reference towards the border crisis. Moreover, J.Lo's outfit change was also significant, as she donned a larger-than-life coat that paid tribute to her Puerto Rican heritage.

All in all, the mother-daughter duo commanded the stage, and that special moment wasn't lost on Lopez.

On Monday, the 50-year-old icon took to social media to share a moving video of her and Emme getting pumped and ready for their big performance during Sunday night's NFL game. The behind-the-scenes footage also showed J.Lo's glam squad doing last-minute touch-ups, her hyping up her team and more.

"Keep us calm and safe," the "Medicine" songstress can be heard saying, as she and her team are gathered around for a prayer. "Help us to get through this. Lord, Jesus Christ... Thank you and we are so grateful because we are gonna rock this stadium!"

In the video clip, Emme and J.Lo also have a special moment together before performing on stage. The 11-year-old can be seen hugging her famous momma. And at the same time, the pop star is shown kissing her daughter on the forehead.

"These moments were captured just minutes before we hit the stage last night," she captioned her Instagram post, alongside the same video. "All I want my girls, the little girls on stage with me and all over the world to know is how to use their voices and be proud of everything they are."

Harvey Weinstein's lawyer says key accuser 'manipulated' him, sent him loving emails - USA TODAY

NEW YORK — Disgraced movie mogul Harvey Weinstein's sex-crimes trial entered its fifth week Monday as defense lawyers continued cross-examining key accuser Jessica Mann about why she maintained a relationship with him after she says he sexually assaulted her.

Mann, 34, took the stand Monday morning in a cream-colored sweater, her hair pulled back in a ponytail. Throughout her cross-examination, one of Weinstein's lawyers, Donna Rotunno, repeatedly asked Mann why she continued sending friendly, seemingly loving emails to the ex-producer, even after he allegedly raped her in a New York City hotel room in March 2013.

Rotunno accused Mann of only wanting the benefits of Weinstein's Hollywood connections, to which Mann fired back that was just Rotunno's version of events. 

Reiterating what she said during the first part of cross-examination Friday, Rotunno added that Mann "manipulated" Weinstein and questioned why she didn't simply walk away. 

Mann responded: “I felt there was an aspect to the way I felt I needed to protect myself that had an element of manipulation.”

At times during the cross-examination, Mann struggled to recall certain details and at one point asked for a break, saying, "I’m getting a little foggy.”

Earlier Monday, Weinstein's defense team unsuccessfully tried to bar the prosecution from bringing in actress Emanuela Postacchini as a witness, whom Mann says had a consensual threesome with her and Weinstein. Mann testified that she was left shaken and uncomfortable by the sexual encounter, and started crying midway through. 

Weinstein's defense lawyer Damon Cheronis argued that "Ms. Posticinni cannot speak to Ms. Mann’s state of mind" during the threesome. 

"Ms. Posticinni is an eyewitness to how a witness, Jessica Mann, was interacting with the defendant at a time when she was saying nice, loving things to (Weinstein) over email," Manhattan Assistant District Attorney Joan Illuzzi argued. "Her testimony is crucial, as an eyewitness to the relationship between Ms. Mann and the defendant."

The prosecution had been expected to wrap up its case against the former movie producer by calling a final, sixth accuser to testify Monday.

Mann spent most of Friday on the stand, describing how Weinstein raped her in a New York hotel room in 2013, a central allegation in the charges against him.

Mann, 34, cried as she testified about multiple sexual encounters she had with Weinstein – some consensual, some not and most of them occurring in Los Angeles County.

Mann described how she entered into a secret and "degrading" sexual relationship with the powerful producer as she struggled to make it as an actress in Hollywood.

After the New York encounter, she acknowledged sending him numerous emails, some of them flattering, because “his ego was so fragile,” she said, and it “made me feel safe...I wanted to be perceived as innocent and naive.”

Months later, she says, he raped her in a hotel in Los Angeles where she worked as a hairdresser, after she told Weinstein that she was dating an actor. He became enraged, she said. 

“You owe me one more time!” she said he screamed at her. 

Mann, who grew up in what she called a "cult-like" Pentecostal church in a small, rural town in Wisconsin, moved to Los Angeles at the age of 25.

Mann's testimony at times caused gasps in the courtroom, and loud objections from the defense table. At one point, she described Weinstein's genitalia, said he had terrible scarring, and that she stayed in a relationship with him because she thought he threatened her father.

Last week, aside from Mann, Dawn Dunning and Tarale Wulff were called to testify; they have accused Weinstein of sexually assaulting them in the mid-2000s, although neither can press charges due to the statute of limitations.

They were presented as "prior bad acts" witnesses aimed at helping prosecutors prove Weinstein had an alleged pattern as a serial predator.

Judge James Burke said Monday that Wulff is expected to return to the stand on Tuesday.

Weinstein, 67, is charged with five sex crimes, including rape and assault, stemming from encounters with Mann and another accuser, Miriam "Mimi" Haleyi, who tearfully testified in court last Monday.

Music superstars Shakira and Jennifer Lopez shared the Super Bowl halftime stage Sunday — delivering an electrifying performance of their greatest hits. The icons even brought a couple surprise famous friends onstage to take part in the show, including Lopez's daughter.

The high-energy show kicked off with Shakira in a red dress flanked with dancers, belting her 2009 hit "She Wolf." She continued the show with a medley of her greatest tunes, including "Whenever, Wherever" and "Empire," dancing all the while.

Shakira brought special guest, Puerto Rican rapper Bad Bunny to the stage for a rendition of "I Like it," before transitioning into one of her biggest hits "Hips Don't Lie," during which she dove into the crowd.

Jennifer Lopez then began her set clinging onto a miniature building donned in a black leather leotard. The superstar started off her portion of the show with 2002 hit "Jenny from the Block," before yelling, "We from the Bronx, New York" to the audience. 

The performer showed off her pole dancing moves and then welcomed Colombian singer J Balvin to the stage during a rendition of "Love Don't Cost a Thing." 

Her performance of "Let's Get Loud" featured a chorus of young girls dressed in white surrounding the star, as a large female symbol appeared in lights. Her daughter, Emme Maribel Muñiz, also made a surprise appearance during the set — right alongside her mother.

The show was full of nods to the performers' Latin roots. Lopez showed of a dual-sided flag — with one side representing Puerto Rico and the other representing the U.S.

Notably, both artists sang in Spanish during multiple songs in their performance. Lopez's parents are both from Puerto Rico and Shakira is from Colombia.

The duo concluded their halftime show standing together on a podium as the audience went wild.

According to an NFL press release, the show is the first time the iconic stars shared a stage. The game took place on Shakira's 43rd birthday — making the performance even more special.

Before the halftime show, Jennifer Lopez offered words of encouragement to Shakira on Instagram. "So excited to share the stage with you tonight @Shakira!" she wrote. "Let's show the world what two little Latin girls can do."

NFL, Pepsi and Roc Nation announced the performance in September, with the two posting matching Instagram photos to share the big news after months of speculation.

Last year, Maroon 5, Big Boy and Travis Scott headlined the show. Other recent superstar performers include Lady Gaga, Beyoncé, Justin Timberlake, Bruno Mars, Madonna and Katy Perry — among many others. 

The NFL season concluded Sunday with the San Francisco 49ers facing off against the Kansas City Chiefs at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida, which is the regular season home of the Miami Dolphins.

Super Bowl commercials: Who scored and who fumbled on the ad industry's biggest stage - CNN

The hoopla surrounding Super Bowl spots -- fueled by the reported $5.6 million that advertisers shelled out for the most expensive 30-second ads -- fosters huge expectations, with the lingering question of whether the investment paid off.
Was there a commercial that people will still be talking about years from now, like Apple's "1984" ad or Coke's Mean Joe Greene commercial? Probably not, and the so-so ads outnumbered the clear winners and losers. Too many of this year's advertisers seemed to confuse activity for achievement, as if being loud and colorful was enough.
Still, a number of them played quite well in the moment, and generally speaking, most avoided the missteps that have characterized some past disasters.
Movie ads flexed their muscles, with in-game spots for the latest "Fast & Furious" movie, another "Minions," Marvel's "Black Widow" and the next James Bond film "No Time to Die." The Super Bowl remains a prime showcase for films that really know how to blow stuff up.
'Black Widow'
Streaming services, however, also had a sizable footprint during the game, a tangible sign of the entertainment industry's shifting priorities.
Hulu, for example, enlisted Tom Brady. Disney+ offered an arresting showcase for its upcoming series. Amazon pushed the drama "Hunters," and Quibi sought to sell its short-video service, although frankly, it doesn't feel like the catchphrase "I'll be there in a Quibi" is going to catch on.
Setting aside the political ads for President Trump and Michael Bloomberg -- how well those pitches worked is likely very much in the partisan eye of the beholder -- here's a series of snap judgments about who scored, who fumbled, and the wide swath of "Eh" in between.
Grading on the curve of Super Bowls past, it was a pretty good day overall for advertising agencies that earn their spurs based on these campaigns. Happily for football fans, it just wasn't as good as the game and Kansas City's come-from-behind victory.

Genesis: John Legend and Chrissy Teigen might be the only celebrity couple that could help sell products in an otherwise uninspired commercial, so more props for the casting than the creative, although the "sexiest man alive" reference was a nice touch.
Jeep: Bill Murray in a "Groundhog Day" spoof -- reunited with co-stars like Stephen Tobolowsky -- on Groundhog Day? The closest the day came to advertising perfection.
Amazon Alexa: An excellent ad -- funny, shows off what the product can do, and what we couldn't do without it -- while incorporating Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi in an organic way. Plus, a timely Watergate wrinkle for good measure.
Google: This one gets major points for its ambition, with a man remembering his late wife. Deeply touching, it was like the opening sequence of the movie "Up" distilled into a commercial.
Hyundai Sonata: "Smaht pahk" -- featuring a Boston-accented Chris Evans, John Krasinski and Rachel Dratch -- made good use of its celebrities, proved genuinely funny and, not incidentally, demonstrated what looked like way-cool technology.
Doritos: The cowboy faceoff between Sam Elliott and Lil Nas X -- using "Old Town Road" as a backdrop -- might have ended in a draw, but it produced a winner for Doritos.
Rocket Mortgage by Quicken Loans: Jason Momoa revealing the 98-pound weakling underneath his skin in the comfort of his home was perhaps the best visual gag of the day.
Walmart: The massive retailer wove together scenes from familiar science-fiction films in a manner that piggybacked on all the movie ads we see during the Super Bowl.
Toyota: How roomy is the Highlander? Very cleverly, you can use it rescue people from perilous movie situations.
T-Mobile: Anthony Anderson's real-life mom gets around -- and calls him a lot -- in an ad for the phone service's 5G that mostly connected.
Microsoft: It's always smart to tie into football in some way, but especially so in featuring Katie Sowers, the first woman to coach in the Super Bowl. Olay offered a similar message in its star-studded "Make space for women" ad, but the creative wasn't quite as good.
Planters ad
Planters: After teasing plans to kill off mascot Mr. Peanut, Planters offered an odd fake-out by introducing a baby version while other corporate spokes-characters mourned. Ultimately, the legume gave his life in the service of a misguided campaign.
Snickers: It's not clear what a giant Snickers bar would do to solve all the world's ills, other than perhaps give it diabetes.
Sabra: Although the ad generated advance controversy because a conservative group was upset that drag queens were featured within it, the only real issue here was that the spot for hummus was messy, and worse, obnoxious.
Avocados From Mexico: "Why Molly Ringwald, exactly?" was only one of the questions this commercial left in its wake.
Mountain Dew: Bryan Cranston was a good choice for this "The Shining" spoof, but other than the closing image of mountain spilling out of the elevator, the whole thing was way too cute for its own good.
Michelob Ultra: Jimmy Fallon working out with John Cena felt awfully tired and un-hip.

NOTABLE AND NOT BAD, BUT....

Budweiser 'Typical American' commericial
Budweiser: The beer company offered one of its typical patriotic ads with a spot featuring "typical Americans," but with the nation this divided, it's harder than ever to deliver that "What unites us" message without evoking thoughts that undermine it.
Facebook: If ever a company might have benefited from a strong corporate image ad, it's Facebook. A spot that told you ways different people use Facebook wasn't bad, but it also wasn't that.
Bud Light Seltzer: A man's inner voices fight a battle over drinking Bud Light Seltzer that looked a lot like a bit from an old Woody Allen movie. An amusing sight gag but a highly derivative idea.
Tide: Charlie Day had a stain on his shirt. Everything after that in a connected series of spots felt like a bit of a blur -- including cameos by the Bud Light Knight and Wonder Woman -- which were unexpected but not enough to redeem it.
P&G: The idea of celebrating a bunch of different brands an in interactive commercial was an interesting idea, but unless you're a marketing student the experiment didn't entirely work.
Sodastream: A funny punchline -- that actually demonstrates what the product does -- pays off this spot about finding water on Mars, with an appropriate cameo by Bill Nye the Science Guy. OK, but not a top-tier ad.
Pepsi: Using the Rolling Stones' "Paint it Black" was a nifty touch, but a fairly standard image spot.
Squarespace: There was a "Fargo" vibe to the spot featuring Winona Ryder in Winona, Minnesota, which only half paid off the gag.
Reese's Take 5: They pushed the notion of illustrating clichés a little too far with the final image, which bordered on crude.
Cheetos: A guy uses having cheesy fingers to get out of various unpleasant things -- including changing a baby -- using MC Hammer's "Can't Touch This." Put this one just outside the "winners" column.
New York Life: There was something serious about life -- and life insurance -- going on there, but it was difficult to follow what it was.
Hard Rock: Michael Bay ("Transformers") directed an action-packed ad in which Jennifer Lopez was joined by a number of other celebs. The spot was certainly busy and energetic, but lacked much point. Sort of like the average Michael Bay movie, only shorter.

Pop icons Jennifer Lopez and Shakira are slated to perform at the 2020 Super Bowl halftime show in Miami, Florida on Sunday— the first time two Latina women will headline the monumental event.

The historic selection represents an important turning point for the NFL, as the league looks to become a more culturally inclusive organization. The NFL took heavy criticism for its handling of former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick and his 2016 “take a knee” movement.

The silent protest prompted several big-name celebrities like Rihanna and Cardi B to boycott the NFL in solidarity with Kaepernick — and the league quickly began to feel the impact in ratings and public opinion.

The 2019 Super Bowl attracted its lowest audience in over a decade, with only 98.2 million viewers tuning in. Critics flocked to Twitter to attack the game’s all white, all male halftime performers — pop group Maroon 5. A viral Change.org petition was even created in an effort to remove the band from the show altogether.

But Sunday night could be a big step in fixing the NFL’s battered image: The first Super Bowl halftime show was co-produced in partnership with rapper turned billionaire businessman Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter.

The new alliance, announced back in August, represents a conscious effort by the NFL to improve its reputation and revamp its social injustice initiative. Jay-Z and his entertainment media company Roc Nation will serve as the league's “live music entertainment strategist” moving forward.

While the pairing may seem odd, Jay-Z — a staunch Kaepernick supporter and vocal critic of the NFL in the past — has defended his new role to help the league grow and improve from the inside out.

A boost from streaming

The NFL famously doesn’t pay its Super Bowl halftime performers, but the post-performance surge many of these artists experience is well worth the lack of a paycheck.

Last year, Maroon 5 saw a sales spike of nearly 500% following the group’s Super Bowl LIII performance, according to Nielsen.

Similarly, Justin Timberlake’s same-day music sales jumped 534% after his 2018 show, while Lady Gaga’s digital catalogue surged above 1000% the year prior.
