'Grey's Anatomy' Fans Are Mourning the End of Alex and Meredith's Friendship More Than the End of Jolex - Showbiz Cheat Sheet

Over the years, Grey’s Anatomy has won over the hearts of many fans around the world. The ongoing relationships, friendships, and even breakups keep everyone glued to the television to see what will transpire in every episode.

It is pretty safe to say that there have been so many plot twists and unexpected surprises, and some have gotten to us more so than others. One of the best friendships on the show, at least in the opinion of many fans, was the friendship of Alex and Meredith, and everyone hoped it would last forever.  After all,  the relationship evolved so much over the years that Meredith went so far as to call Alex her “person.”

It is unusual to find such a close friendship, with two people who can really connect, which is why the Alex and Meredith friendship storyline was such a fan favorite.

However, the world was stunned when Justin Chambers unexpectedly announced his departure from the hit show, and instantly, everyone began to speculate as to how he would leave. Here is why Grey’s Anatomy fans are mourning the end of Alex and Meredith’s friendship more than the end of “Jolex”.

The history of Alex and Meredith’s friendship

They had a friendship that was one of a kind, but how did it start? According to the Tylt, they actually didn’t start off on the right foot! Meredith didn’t care for Alex much when she first met him, and obviously, her feelings changed as the show and the storyline progressed.

The two, although they are just friends, have always stuck by each other, especially when things got tough, which happened pretty often. There have been relationship struggles, deaths, and even tragic accidents, and Alex and Meredith’s friendship has always been able to remain as strong as possible. With such a close bond, many fans actually wondered if it would ever turn into more.

Fans had no idea what would happen

When it was revealed that Chambers would be leaving Grey’s Anatomy after so many years, fans were left wondering how his character would be written off the show. TV Insider reports that so many viewers were just not ready to say goodbye to Alex just yet, and they didn’t hesitate to show their disappointment.

It almost seems as if the show will never be the same now that Chambers is no longer a part of it, and the fact that he is leaving has broken the hearts of millions. It is truly a sad time now that we are seeing not only the end of the friendship between Alex and Meredith, but also between Alex and his wife, Jo.

‘Grey’s Anatomy’ fans are mourning

Alex’s departure from the show has left many people not only upset but with mixed feelings as well. How so?

Well, as it turns out, Grey’s Anatomy fans are actually mourning the end of Alex and Meredith’s friendship even more than the end of “Jolex” according to Reddit. Many fans feel that the friendship of Meredith and Alex was the only one on the show that remained solid over the course of so many years.

We have seen friendships and relationships come and go so quickly at times, but Alex and Meredith had a bond that seemed unbreakable. No matter what they ever experienced together, everyone was always rooting for them, and it was like they were truly each other’s rock.

While it is always sad to see a romantic relationship end, sometimes it is even more difficult to absorb the shock of seeing the end of a friendship, and that is exactly what fans of the show are being faced with.

Harvey Weinstein moved to NYC jail after heart procedure - The Associated Press

NEW YORK (AP) — Harvey Weinstein was moved Thursday to an infirmary unit at New York City’s notorious Rikers Island jail complex after undergoing a heart procedure at the hospital where he’d been held since his conviction last month on rape and sexual assault charges.

Weinstein’s spokesman, Juda Engelmayer, said that the former film producer’s procedure Wednesday at Bellevue Hospital was “deemed successful,” but Engelmayer wouldn’t go into further detail. Weinstein was taken by ambulance to the North Infirmary Command on Rikers Island after doctors at the hospital deemed him fit enough to be moved there.

Weinstein, 67, was originally supposed to go to Rikers Island immediately after his Feb. 24 conviction, but he was detoured to Bellevue Hospital amid concerns about high blood pressure and heart palpitations. He was at the hospital for more than a week.

Weinstein’s lawyer Arthur Aidala, who saw him at the hospital Thursday morning, said his client is “obviously not the picture of health.”

In addition to the heart issues, Weinstein’s lawyers have said he was also dealing with the ramifications of unsuccessful back surgery stemming from a car crash last summer and a condition that requires shots in his eyes so he does not go blind.

Weinstein used a walker to aid his movement in and out of the courthouse.

“He’s obviously not happy where he is. But he’s lucid and realistic about everything. He’s still in a state of disbelief,” Aidala said.

Weinstein is due back in court Wednesday for sentencing. He was convicted on one count of criminal sex act for forcibly performing oral sex on a woman in 2006 and one count of third-degree rape for a 2013 attack on another woman.

On the criminal sex act count, he faces a minimum of five years in prison and a maximum of 25 years in prison, while the third-degree rape count carries a maximum penalty of four years in prison. The judge could have the sentences run concurrently.

Weinstein was acquitted of predatory sexual assault charges that carry a maximum sentence of life in prison.

After revoking Weinstein’s bail when he was convicted, Judge James Burke made a judicial request to place him in the North Infirmary Command. There, the judge said, he’d have “something tantamount to protective custody.”

Martin Horn, a former city corrections commissioner, said that despite its name, the infirmary is more like a regular jail than a hospital unit.

Built in 1932 as the original Rikers Island Hospital, the infirmary now has smaller, 10-cell blocks that are used for protective units for inmates who might be targets in general population, such as sex offenders and former law enforcement officers.

Horn said the city’s jails have specialized units for the disabled but inmates with serious medical needs are often sent to the hospital ward at Bellevue.

A plan approved last year calls for closing the Rikers Island complex by 2026 and replacing it with four smaller jails around the city. Rikers has become synonymous with violence and neglect, while the new jails are intended to be more modern and humane.

'Grey's Anatomy' Fans Are Wishing Alex Karev Was Dead After Shocking Ending - Showbiz Cheat Sheet

Fans had to say goodbye to another original character on Grey’s Anatomy. However, this character was given a very unexpected ending.

Find out why they’re angry about Alex Karev (Justin Chambers)’s ending and even wishing there was a heartbreaking death instead. [Spoiler alert: Warning spoilers for the episode “Leave a Light On” of Grey’s Anatomy!]

Alex Karev’s last episode of ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ aired

The last episode with Alex Karev is called “Leave a Light On.” It showed Jo (Camilla Luddington), Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo), and Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson) receiving letters from him.

“This is not the way I wanted to do this but you know me. Any chance to take the easy way out. Maybe that used to be true. I don’t know,” read his letter to Meredith.

Throughout the episode we get clips from Alex’s early days at the hospital. Alex revealed that he called Izzie (Katherine Heigl) earlier in the season so she could help Meredith with her trial. That’s when he learned Izzie has been living as a single mom with their twins and is working as a surgical oncologist. Fans eventually find out he left Seattle to be with Izzie and their twins in Kansas.

In real life, Chambers decided to quit the show. “There’s no good time to say goodbye to a show and character that’s defined so much of my life for the past 15 years,” he said in a statement given to Deadline. “For some time now, however, I have hoped to diversify my acting roles and career choices. And, as I turn 50 and am blessed with my remarkable, supportive wife and five wonderful children, now is that time.”

The statement continued, “As I move on from Grey’s Anatomy, I want to thank the ABC family, Shonda Rimes, original cast members Ellen Pompeo, Chandra Wilson and James Pickens, and the rest of the amazing cast and crew, both past and present, and, of course, the fans for an extraordinary ride.”

The showrunner said it was impossible to say goodbye

Showrunner, Krista Vernoff gave a statement to Us Weekly about Chambers’ exit from the show. She focused on how hard it was to write the character off the show.

“It is nearly impossible to say goodbye to Alex Karev,” said Vernoff. “That is as true for me and for all of the writers at Grey’s Anatomy as it is for the fans. We have loved writing Alex. And we have loved watching Justin Chambers’ nuanced portrayal of him.”

She continued, “For 16 seasons, 16 years, we have grown up alongside Alex Karev. We have been frustrated by his limitations and we have been inspired by his growth and we have come to love him deeply and to think of him as one of our very best friends. We will miss him terribly. And we will always be grateful for his impact, on our show, on our hearts, on our fans, on the world.”

Fans are wishing he died instead

Fans who love the relationship between Jo and Alex weren’t happy with this ending. Others thought it went against all of the change the doctor went through on the show. Many of them tweeted that they wished he died instead.

One fan tweeted, “alex and april ditching character development by getting back together with their exes after serving soulmatery storylines for years #GreysAnatomy.” Another fan tweeted, “All im [sic] saying Justin Chambers, aka Dr. Alex Karev, if you had time for a stupid a** voice over for letters than you had time to film one episode to die. Because that was just bullsh*t and I cannot handle it. #GreysAnatomy.”

Jo will have an interesting road ahead of her. Alex left her everything including his shares in the hospital. Time will tell how fans will take watching it after Alex left her.

'Grey's Anatomy': Krista Vernoff Addresses Alex Karev's Last Episode - Showbiz Cheat Sheet

Regardless of what happened on Thursday, March 5, Grey’s Anatomy fans knew they would have a hard time watching Alex Karev’s (Justin Chambers) last episode. But when the final goodbye aired on ABC, viewers were even more overwhelmed than expected. Ultimately, most people were disappointed with how Alex left. That said, it seems the Grey’s Anatomy team was aware of how the fandom would react to Alex’s departure. After “Leave a Light On” made its debut, showrunner Krista Vernoff issued a statement that truly captured the essence of the episode — there is no good way to say goodbye.

[Spoiler alert: Grey’s Anatomy Season 16, Episode 16.]

How was Alex Karev written out of ‘Grey’s Anatomy’?

On Jan. 10, Chambers released a statement announcing his departure from Grey’s Anatomy after 16 seasons.

“There’s no good time to say goodbye to a show and character that’s defined so much of my life for the past 15 years,” Chambers said, per Deadline. And then Chambers’ statement ruminated throughout Alex’s last episode on Grey’s Anatomy.

Chambers hasn’t appeared in a new episode since the 350th special in November 2019. So the writers excused his character’s absence, noting Alex was in Iowa to take care of his mom. But even so, the 49-year-old’s voice made a cameo in the March 5 episode.

In “Leave a Light On,” Alex sent letters to Meredith (Ellen Pompeo), Jo Wilson (Camilla Luddington), Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson), and Richard Webber (James Pickens Jr.). And each letter was narrated by Chambers.

In the letters, everyone discovered Alex’s true fate. Apparently, the peds surgeon reconnected with Izzie Stevens (Katherine Heigl) after contacting her for Meredith’s hearing in the 350th episode. During their conversation, Alex learned Izzie had kids. And get this — they’re his kids. Remember the couple had frozen embryos from when Izzie had metastatic melanoma.

Eventually, one thing led to another and Alex chose to stay with Izzie and raise their family together in Kansas. Thus, leaving everyone — including his person, Meredith, and wife, Jo — behind. “I’m finally exactly where I should be,” Alex said.

Then at the end of the Grey’s Anatomy episode, Meredith’s narration loomed over the remaining characters as they continued living on. “There’s really no good way to say goodbye,” she said.

‘Grey’s Anatomy’ showrunner Krista Vernoff on Alex Karev’s last episode on March 5

Following “Leave a Light On,” Vernoff addressed the Alex’s last episode on Grey’s Anatomy. The showrunner thanked Chambers for his portrayal and what Alex has done for fans across the globe in the 15 years onscreen. Vernoff also touched on how difficult it was to let the character go.

“It is nearly impossible to say goodbye to Alex Karev,” Vernoff wrote on Twitter. “That is as true for me and for all of the writers at Grey’s Anatomy as it is for the fans. We have loved writing Alex. And we have loved watching Justin Chambers’ nuanced portrayal of him.”

She continued: “For 16 seasons, 16 years, we have grown up alongside Alex Karev. We have been frustrated by his limitations and we have been inspired by his growth and we have come to love him deeply and to think of him as one of our very best friends. We will miss him terribly. And we will always be grateful for his impact, on our show, on our hearts, on our fans, on the world.”

It’s difficult to imagine how Grey’s Anatomy continues without Alex. As Vernoff — and the March 5 episode — told us, there wasn’t really a good way to say goodbye, given the situation. So for now, we’ll look towards the remaining characters to help us move forward.

When speaking with Variety before “Leave a Light On” aired on ABC, Vernoff explained how Alex’s departure will affect Jo. And from the sounds of it, Jo will still remain strong. However, it might take some time.

“Jo went through so much pain and so much grief just last season that I wanted to be careful,” Vernoff said. “And so it’s a bit of a mystery [what’s going on with Alex], so that we don’t watch Jo in the same place that we watched her in last season. We did it as carefully as we could. But it takes a while to get there.”

Prince Harry finds new hobby while Meghan Markle is away, insider claims - Fox News

Prince Harry has found an unlikely way to cope with Megxit — playing guitar.

The British royal recently collaborated with Jon Bon Jovi for a re-recording of the rocker’s 2019 single “Unbroken” for the Invictus Games, a charity sporting event for wounded servicemen and women that Harry created and runs.

However, U.K.-based media correspondent Neil Sean told Fox News this won’t be the last time we’ll see the 35-year-old dabbling in music.

“Spies tell me that Harry, who has had a guitar for years and toyed with the idea of learning to play, is now seriously looking at lessons,” Sean explained. “[He and Bon Jovi] discussed how relaxing and stress-free making music can be.

“A mole added, ‘Harry is musical and adores soft rock but always liked the idea of making music as a way to relax,’” Sean continued. “’He has promised Jon it’s now his new hobby. Harry himself is looking at new guitar options.’”

“Could this be his new career after quitting the royals?” Sean added. “Ed Sheeran, watch out.”

A royal insider also told Sean that bonding with Bon Jovi over music was especially important for Harry.

“Harry revealed to a mole his late mother Diana was a huge Jon Bon Jovi fan back in the day and he too loves their music,” said Sean.

Bon Jovi, 57, recently spoke about his upcoming project with the Duke of Sussex on “The Chris Evans Breakfast Show with Sky.”

“[Prince Harry] said yes and stuck now to it, so we’re doing it,” Bon Jovi said. “I’m gonna hand him a tambourine and see what he’s got going."

“My idea and letter to him at the time was, ‘I’d like to give you the single,’” the singer shared. "I would love to give something back to the people you care [about] … but I want them to be the singers.

“It’s the ‘We Are the World’ for this song. I’ve got 12 veterans. They’ll sing the chorus to the existing track, which I did, and then it’ll be on the new record.”

He added, “We’ll release it as a single here in time for their games and hopefully raise them some money.”

At the time, Bon Jovi admitted that he wasn’t sure how to address the royal since he announced he and wife Meghan Markle decided to step back as senior members of the royal family.

“I’ve been asking, ‘What do I do? How do I address him?’ And then I realized I’m gonna call him ‘The Artist Formerly Known as Prince,'” the Grammy winner joked.

Sean said Harry has been enjoying the musical perk amid the royal drama surrounding Megxit.

“The Duke of Sussex’s difficult extraction as a member of the British royal family has been no easy ride so far,” he explained. “But… he did get to enjoy [the] perk.

“The Prince met with Bon Jovi outside the famous Abbey Road Studios,” Sean shared. “The two then went into the control room overlook Studio 2, where the Beatles recorded during the 1960s all those iconic tunes that people adore today, and shared a quick duet in front of the studio’s microphones.”

However, it won’t be all playtime for Harry much longer. He, along with his wife, is set to publicly reunite with Prince William and Kate Middleton.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will join the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, as well as Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall for Commonwealth Day on Monday, March 9, Buckingham Palace confirmed. The British royals will be at Westminster Abbey for the annual service.

The two couples attended last year’s service when Markle, 38, was in her third trimester of pregnancy.

JON BON JOVI TEASES PRINCE HARRY MUSIC COLLABORATION: 'WE'RE DOING IT'

The American actress will be joining her husband later this week after spending more than a month on Vancouver Island in Canada. The couple, as well as their son Archie, have been living there since announcing their decision to step back as senior members of the royal family. They have said they intend on splitting their time between North America and the U.K.

Numerous sources have long insisted tensions started brewing between the brothers when Harry revealed he wanted to marry Markle after less than a year of dating. When William cautioned Harry that the whirlwind romance was moving too quickly, Harry reportedly became angry and hurt.

William dated Middleton, his college sweetheart, for about eight years before tying the knot in 2011.

Harry hinted at the ongoing rift between him and his older brother in the ITV documentary “Harry & Meghan: An African Journey,” which aired in October 2019.

“Inevitably stuff happens,” explained the British royal. “But we’re brothers, we’ll always be brothers. We’re certainly on different paths at the moment. I’ll always be there for him and as I know, he’ll always be there for me. We don’t see each other as much as we used to because we’re so busy, but I love him dearly."

“The majority of stuff is created out of nothing,” added Harry. “As brothers, we have good days and we have bad days.”

In January, the brothers formed a united front to deny a report that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s behavior played a role in Harry and Markle’s decision to “step back” from their royal duties.

In a statement on behalf of both princes released by the palace, the brothers denied reports from a U.K. newspaper that Harry and Markle felt pushed out of the royal family by William and Middleton.

In a statement confirmed by Fox News, the brothers said: “Despite clear denials, a false story ran in a UK newspaper today speculating about the relationship between the Duke of Sussex and The Duke of Cambridge. For brothers who care so deeply about the issues surrounding mental health, the use of inflammatory language in this way is offensive and potentially harmful.”

The rebuke came in response to a story published by The Times of London that stated that Harry and Markle came to their historic decision to step back from their royal duties and become financially independent from the crown after two years of being “bullied” and “told their place” by William, Middleton and other senior royals.
